It sounds like the partition on your Verbatim drive is damaged but the first thing to do is determine the condition of the drive. You can check if there are problems with the drive using the free trial version of http://www.hdtune.com/

If it checks out ok then you can try to recover your data with Recuva it's free http://www.piriform.com/recuva

Or if you need data recovery help this a good choice for low cost and fast data recovery. All data recovery work is performed remotely over the Internet from a boot cd that you download and the best part is they just ask for donations if you are happy with the results: http://FreeDataRecovery.us

My new verbatim 53018 1Tb harddisc is not working, my computer does not see it.

Im not sure what computer you have, but whenever I use an external hard drive on my computer, an icon either shows up on the toolbar, I dont think in your case thats happening or you would have obviously seen it, however if you have a start or home button on your toolbar on your regular desktop location then you can click to open your computer menu e.i. control panel, word, games,...etc.. look for your "computer" file, click to open, then look for "Hard Drives" or "Devices and Storage" also check and see if anywhere in those menus if there is a "Removable Devices and Storage" tab, if you find these menus and verbatim 53018 doesnt show up in any of your menu tabs then try creating a file on your computer and saving it to your hard drive in the "Save" file location, if its connected properly then you should see a message screen that asks you which location would you like to save your file, it should list all possible storage locations and hopefully Verbatim 53018 is listed.Hope this helps you out.

I bent my flashdrive and

I would check the pins in the end of the flash drive and see if any of them are bent back. If these metal pieces aren't in the right place then the flash drive won't be able to connect to your laptop. I would try bending them back into place with a small flat head screwdriver. If you don't want to fix it yourself then I suggest you either buy a new flash drive or take it to an electronics store for more help.

Will not format to full

Hi,

Ithink it could be due to virus activity. Some virus make the contents of thedrive hidden, that's why user can't see the files and the space available for use is less than thecapacity and also can not open the drive. It issuggested that go to FOLDER OPTIONS - and select SHOW HIDDEN FILES. It may showthe hidden files. If can not show ,hidden file (tools >folder option>view> check on show hidden file>check off hide protected and checkoff hide extension) now can see all hidden file in c drive. If not think...... For ensure again run>type> msconfig > hit can not open ms config if virus effected run >type> regedit>hit>can not open registry if virus effected run >type >gpedit.msc>hit can not open group edit policy if virus effected Otherwise, ifyou don't have any vital data on the drive, just format it in another pc.Pleasenote, before insert the Pen drive .Go to run command from start menu OR Press Win key+R and type gpedit.msc and hit>Usser configuration >system>turn off auto play >enable>use down arrow key select all drive >apply >ok. Control panel>administrative tools > service>select any word in right side and presss for select Shell Hardware Detection> d -click >use down arrow key>disable >start. And now can insert pen drive and format. Hope this wouldfix the issue and . Youshould fully scan by f-secure bootable cd or any another antivirus bootable cd.Just insert the disk and restart. Follow bellow the download link. http://www.f-secure.com/en_EMEA-Labs/security-threats/tools/rescue-cd you wouldbe able to enjoy the full capacity of the disk. Try to be sure follow these youshould delete partition and create new partition and format your all drive. Now install fresh O.S.
Hope this helps

How do I safely turn

In the notification area you will see an icon with the Safely Remove hardware label - click on it; a small window will appear listing the devices connected to the USB ports (your stick included) . Click on the entry corresponding to the stick, wait a few moment to be unloaded from the Windows and take it out. Now you can shutdown safely.

I have a Verbatim ac320gb USB Hard Drive. i try to

Each USB port passes a limited amount of wattage.
The "formatting" is a "high-wattage" operation.
Try connecting to a different desktop computer, hopefully with more wattage per USB port.

Note that 289 * 1024 * 1024 * 1024 is equal to 320 * 1000 * 1000 * 1000

So, '289' (base-2) is equal to '320' (base-10).

Verbatim 320 gb usb external

An external storage-device has four major components:

* the USB cable

* the power-adapter

* the disk-drive inside the enclosure

* the USB-to-disk-drive adapter inside the enclosure.

One of these components has failed.

Try a different USB cable.

Try connecting to a different USB port on your computer.

Try connecting to a USB port on a different computer.

Take a "multi-meter" and measure both the voltage and amperage output from the AC adapter, and compare with the specifications on the label on the adapter.

Open the enclosure, and remove the disk-drive, and then connect it as a "slave" disk-drive in a desktop computer, to see if it works at all.

Purchase a new, compatible, disk-drive, and install it in the enclosure, to "revive" your external storage device.

Get the part-number and serial-number from the label on your disk-drive, and access the manufacturer's web-site, and use "check warranty status", to see if they will replace the device, at minimal cost to you.

There exist commercial "data recovery" services that can try to repair your device, just long-enough to rescue and copy your files.
For example, see: https://services.seagate.com/index.aspx?lng=en-US for a "no data - no charge guarantee".

I have verbatim 53009 500gb

Hello

Okay , so there are some steps to figure out what is wrong with your external.

Firstly , if your computer makes a sound when you plug in your external , go to Start-Control Panel-Administrative Tools-Computer Management-Disk Management , and see if your external drive is listed here with your local drives. If it is listed , right click on the drive and change the drive letter to make it appear in "my computer".

If your drive does not make a connection sound when connecting to your computer and also does not show up , please follow the next step.

Remove the hard drive from the casing if possible and install it in your computer case or another external case.If the drive works , the problem is with the casing and you can ignore the drive.

Now , if the problem is with the casing , there are still 3 possibilities.

  1. The USB cable between the drive and the computer may be damaged.
  2. The circuit board which connects your drive to the interface of the external may be blown.
  3. The power supply (if applicable) may have a blown transformer.
The latter is the easiest to diagnose , does your external light up at all when you plug in the power? If not , then this is probably your problem. On the bottom of the adapter is a label which you will be able to use to have a new adapter made at your local electronics shop and this will cost about $30 max. They will also be able to test the adapter with a clamp meter to see if this is really the problem and this should be free.

The second component you want to test is the USB cable. If you have a printer , swop out the cables and see if your printer functions normally. Most externals use the same connector so you should be able to test it in this manner. If the cable works go on to the last step. If the cable is defective , replace it with a new one which you can find for about $10 at most electronics and chain stores.

The last component to test is the circuit board. This is a bit of a grey zone as you probably won't be able to spot the blown component unless it failed really badly. With the casing already opened , locate the external's circuit board and check to see if you have any blackened components or fluids leaking from some components. If all the other components of the external worked perfectly , then this is the faulty part. It is not really economical to replace the circuit as most of the time it is out of production by the time you need to replace it and it still costs a lot even if it is available so if your drive is working perfectly when connected via sata or IDE on your computer , the best is to buy a new casing and place your old drive in the new casing.

A casing costs about $50 and you could get it at most tech shops and big chain stores like Best Buy.

I hope this solves your problem and please reply if you need more help.

Kind Regards
Andrea
