Dell OptiPlex GX150 PC Desktop Questions & Answers
How do you set original boot configuration or can you make the desktop automatically do it?
When you turn on the power, start pressing the F2 key. This should bring up the BIOS screen that will allow you to see what the settings are for the computer hardware. Make sure that you check the date and time because this is an indication that the battery in the computer is dead. If the date and time are correct, then look for the screen that shows the hard disk drives. If none is shown, then it be an indication that the hard drive has failed. IF the drive is shown, then you can look for the screen that shows the boot device order. Usually the CD drive is listed first and then the hard drive.
If you did not change the boot order or any of the settings in here before this happened AND the battery is not dead, THE HARD DRIVE has most likely failed.

Restoring a computer to its original factory settings should be the last ditch effort in attempting to save a system that has been corrupted by viruses or defective programs. In the best case scenario, one would use the system restore CD that ships with new computers but often this CD is lost or the computer was purchased used. In this case, a factory settings restoration can still be performed by using the computer's "Advanced Boot" menu. Restart the computer. Press the "F8" key after the computer reboots but before the "Windows" logo appears on the screen. You should now see the "Advanced Boot" menu. Scroll down through the menu options using the down arrow key. Stop when "Repair Your Computer" is highlighted and hit the "Enter" key. Select the language you wish to use and press the "Enter" key. Type in the computer's administrator ID and password. Press the "Enter" key. Scroll through the options using the down arrow key. Choose "Restore (name of computer manufacturer) Settings." Press the "Enter" key. Choose "Yes" when asked if you want to reformat the hard drive. Press the "Enter" key to begin the reformatting process. The process takes a few minutes, so be patient. Do not turn off the computer or attempt to stop the process after it has begun, or this may result in major damage to the hard drive. Choose "Finish" and press the "Enter" key to restart the computer. The computer will restart with the original factory settings.

If you get a 'Limited connectivity" on you wireless connection on your laptop, it means that the wireless card on your laptop probably did not get an IP address from the wireless router. To fix this problem, right click on the wireless icon on the Task bar and then click Repair. This will force the wireless router to issue a IP address to the wireless card on the laptop.
Will the hard-drive from PACKARD-BELL IMEDIA X2414 go into DELL GX150LINUX
Yes if the data connections are compatible. SATA data interface and SATA power connector, it's a thin black connector. It is not reccommend to switch drives across operating systems unless you are abolutely sure that you know how to access the drive without damaging/erasing the information that is currently on the drive. The current Windows hard drive will not boot in a different pc system. I would suggest getting the orginal pc working again, it may be a simple case of loose connection/contacts. Unless you had a friend that would be willing to help, by attaching your hard drive to his pc as a slave and then copying your data to DVD's.See my published guide entitled:

If both of the hard drives are on the same data cable/disk drive controller it is unlikely that both the have failed. Reseat the data cable connectors on the hard drives and at the motherboard.
Reboot you computer and hopefully it will boot up.
Check the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drives.
If not the disk drive controller on the motherboard may be faulty.

Just buy this one http://www.ascendtech.us/itemdesc.asp?ic=MB4FOX865M06GV6 and a cheap case and move everything to it.
