When I start the computer
If this monitor (HP w1907) is going into sleep mode the normally blue power led will change to yellow. This indicates loss of video signal or possible out of range resolution. If the picture goes dark and the power lite stays blue, you have a backlight malfunction. It can be an inverter power fault but this model mostly has worn out backlights causing a shutdown condition.

How do you dim monitor brightness
This can be done in the menu on the monitor. There should be a button that says menu. push that and sub menus will come up. There should be a choice for brightness. Most of the selections are then adjusted using the volume buttons Up or Down.

My 2007 HP monitor (vs19e) began giving me problem
Hi,
I am sorry to hear regarding the trouble. This is a common problem with HP monitors and we have discussed the same in length in many forums and blogs. There are 2 main reasons for the same :-
1. There is dust accumulated inside the Menu button which makes a short
circuit and so you repeatedly get the Display Menu. You can resolve this
by opening up the monitor panel and blowing away the dust with a
compressed air can. Do NOT use hot air blowers. Also try to clean up the
circuits with a very soft dry cloth.
Caution: First unplug the monitor and leave it without power for 2-3 hours before performing above procedure.
2.
This is a common issue that happens when a particular IC (integrated
circuit - Chip) goes bad either because of manufacturing defect or age.
So if step 1 does not resolve your issue than the only option is to get
the monitor replaced from HP if it is under warranty. If it is not in
warranty don't even think of getting it repaired as that will cost you
much more than buying a new monitor.
To open the monitor, you need to unscrew the screws on the back side or they might be hidden under some panel.
Let me know,if needed further assistance.
Hope i helped you.
Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!
Screen is black and power button is blinking
You need to try it with another PC first to make sure it is not the PC problem. This model is known to have bad caps and bad lamp assemblies.
See my pictures here:

If you are going to DIY and already try the monitor with another PC, and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.
