The display is incorrect

well from a quick google i can see the original manufacturer was Panasonic. As a general rule of thumb , if you cannot get higher than 16 colours and 800x600 resolution then thats probably all the graphics on the laptop can support. Looking at the specification , its obvious that the laptop is quite old and back when windows 98se was the mainly used OS and Pentium 3's under 1 ghz were common , 800x600 with 16 colours was probably the best available.

As windows update wont be any use to due no more support for win98 , right clicfk My Computer , go the properties and click the Device Manager tab. Under Display Adapters , you will see the adapter for your laptop. You can try right clicking it , clickuing update driver , letting it search and see if it finds one. This may solve your problem as sometimes driver updates allow for more resolutions.

Please post what device manager ssays under Display Adapters if you get stuck and il try and find an updated driver.

No power

Is the AC plugged directly into the notebook or is there an external power supply? If it is the latter, any multimeter would tell you if the external supply is still doing something.
If you have a meter (or a friend with one), don't get confused if the output if much higher than is stamped into the case since these are often only crudely or totally un-regulated with the bulk of the work being done inside the case where circuitry regulates power for the board with the computer on and the batteries under all conditions.

Ugrading

Hi,

The message would be expected since there is no hard drive. Partition Table refers to information about primary partitions and an extended partition a 64-byte data structure located in the same sector as the Master Boot Record inside the hard drive.

This might be of additional help.

Hope that this be of initial idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

Downloading pictures

Two ways, 1- burn the pictures to disc using an external, since I'm sure your 27 doesn't have a burner. Standard issue burners are a little after it's time. 2- purchase an IDE to USB laptop hard drive cable. This cable will allow you to connect the 27's hard drive directly to your new computer as a slave or storage device, and will show up in "my computer" as another drive.

One possible solution would be to obtain a windows installation disk for the operating system you're using...which will allow you to format the hard drive and do a new windows installation.

Screen

take apart the screen housing and
replace the LCD panel. It can be done with basic hand tools and a little patience. 12.1" "bare-bones" CF27s should be REAL cheap on ebay, the 13.3" ones might be a little more. or you can send it in to panasonic for replacement.

PanasonicToughbook CF-27: PCMCIA/USB 2.0 Card

Hi,
Unless you can use external power to the usb 2.0 pcmcia card, a CF-27 probly won't handle the load.
Their power adapters are only 15V and the unit itself is a P2 433 at best. It's just pulling too much power.
Sorry
Good luck

Screen .

if it is just the screen shutting off and not the power, your computer is either going into standby mode or the power settings are acting up.

what operating system are you running? has this been happening since you have had the notebook, or did it just start doing this? if it just started doing this, did you install any new hardware or software (including operating system updates)?

Screen upside down on a panasonic CF-T8

On any Panasonic Toughbook you can rotate the screen as follows: Hold down the "CTRL" and the "ALT" keys and while holding down these two keys press the "UP Arrow" key and then release all three keys. This will reset the screen so it is right side up instead of upside down. Good Luck and regards from: Richard, Authorized Panasonic Canada Toughbook Dealer since 1989. P.S. The arrow keys look like this: The up arrow is the one on the top arrowkeys-wizlq2ugugduqihzx2y1x4lj-1-0.jpg
