I have tried several times with three disks to

It's not uncommon to have problems during install due to ACPI (Advanced Configuration and Power Interface) I'm not sure about installing XP (in the Army we always had a custom-built image we used) but to get Linux installed (currently posting this from my CF50-J with Ubuntu 10.10 installed) I had to disable all the automatic system management stuff at boot time (APIC, ACPI, APM, etc) then I was able to boot into the installer. You may also want to check in to upgrading the RAM, since some of the CF-50's (like mine) shipped with a paltry 265MB of RAM. I can only imagine how much of a crimp that must put in the OS install process. (I found a 1GB ram chip that works in this system, and it's made a huge difference)

Just be patient when you're working with this dinosaur. She's a slow old girl, but don't let her arthritis and creaky bones fool you; she still packs a punch. Great battery life and rugged construction still maker the Toughbook CF-50 a solid everyday laptop.

Battery light flashes red. Battery will discharge

First, you need to make sure your power adapter is providing enough power to both run the laptop & charge the battery. A very good way to do this is to compare your laptop voltage & ampere requirements (written on a sticker on the bottom of the laptop) with the voltage & ampere ratings of the power adapter. Voltages should be the same, or the power adapter's voltage about up to 0.5 volts more than the laptop's voltage rating. Amperage of the power adapter should be at least equal to or greater than the laptop's rating. It should never be less than the laptop's rating, or else the power adapter will be providing insufficient amperes to charge the battery. Of course, the power adapter's nominal amperage might be ok, but it degraded on usage. You can verify this by testing using a good or new power adapter.
If the battery did not charge using the new power adapter, take the battery off the laptop, & using a dry tooth brush, scrub in between the fins of the battery connector on the motherboard & on the battery it self, then put the battery back into the laptop & try again.
If this still did not resolve the problem, then the battery itself could be bad. Try it on another laptop, or try a good or new battery in your laptop.
If this did not work, there might be a possibility that the charging circuitry on the laptop's motherboard is defective & needs servicing. In order to do this, the laptop needs to be disassembled & the motherboard checked for defective/burned out components in the area near the DC jack. Any defective/burned out components found should be replaced, or you might need to replace the laptop's motherboard altogether

Wireless will not work in my panasonic cf50 after running restore

You need to download the driver in order to get it to work. Suggestions are using the ethernet connection if possible, or by whatever other means you used to post this message and download the driver for the wireless network card. If you used a secondary computer to download the driver, use a jump-drive/pen drive/thumb drive/memory card/etc, to transfer to this computer.

NumLk issue

I found the following at:
http://www.freshmango.com/support/kb/office-business-programs/windows-xp/xp-numlock-issue-on-login-startup/

This should do the trick...
------------------------------------------------------------------------
After some search I discovered that the Numlock control status can be controlled using a registry key which can be found here:
HKEY_USERS \ .DEFAULT \ Control Panel \ Keyboard \ InitialKeyboardIndicators
Simply change the value to either 0 for off or 2 for on.
  1. Start the Registry Editor
  2. Go to Start
  3. Select Run
  4. Type regedit
  5. Work through the tree to get to HKEY_USERS \ .DEFAULT \ Control Panel \ Keyboard
  6. If the key “InitialKeyboardIndicators” already exists then change its value to the appropriate number, if not, add a new key called “InitialKeyboardIndicators” with the appropriate value.
  7. Click OK
  8. Restart
For the lazier amongst you, simply copy and paste the code below in to a text file (in notepad), save it as "FixMySoddingNumlock.REG", close notepad and double click the file:
To make the Numlock OFF by default use: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Keyboard]
"InitialKeyboardIndicators"="0"
To make the Numlock ON by default use: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Keyboard]
"InitialKeyboardIndicators"="2"
