Hello Mitch, The problem with the HP laserjet 4600 (cartridges won't release to be removed) is that the plastic cartridge lock lever located on the right side has broken and will not release any cartridge at all unless the side is taken off and you can move the lever by hand. This cheap plastic locking arm does all 4 cartridges at once.It is not exactly an easy fix and is very patience testing! Your printer needs to have a tech replace this locking mechanism. Good Luck! EIO 1 is the port in the back of the printer for a JetDirect Network Card, or for the External Hard drive. Pull the card out of the slot (turn off the power first) then turn on the printer to see if the error went away. If so, you need to replace the item you removed.

57 indicates a printer fan error has occurred the .4 points to the formatter fan (F1) is bad. Connector J1004. Voltage should be 24 VDC between pins 1 & 3. If it is, then replace the fan, if it isn't, replace the DC Controller PCB.

51.2 is a laser error. there should be another number after the 2, 0 = black laser 1 = cyan laser 2 = magenta laser 3 = yellow laser. The groan is most likely the polygon motor has lost its lubrication and may just need to be cleaned and re-lubricated. You can also try reseating the connectors from the lasers to the DC controller PCB...

Disconnect any network or usb cables from printer and try to restart. If printer will restart and comes to ready you need to update the firmware. If you still get the error then either the memory on the formatter is bad, the firmware on the formatter is bad or the formatter itself is bad.

For resetting the toner levels, cartridge memory chip has to be replaced. Memory chip was mounted beside of the each cartridge & its easy available in the local market.. For better idea pl see the snap..

Just we cant judge reading the sound if we hear the sound we can say the fault, any how check fuser assembly seated properly or not? open side doors then observe where you are getting the sound..

This is a laser error. I found this directly from HP's website. Here's your fix:

Press the green (Select) button to continue.

Turn the printer off, and turn it on again.

Perform a cold reset.

1. Turn on the printer.
2. Watch the control panel.
3. When the memory starts counting, press and hold the (Select) button.
4. Continue holding the (Select) button until the Ready, Data, and Attention lights flash once, and then stay on steady.
5. Release the (Select) button when the Ready, Data, and Attention light are on steady.
6. The control panel will display SELECT LANGUAGE .
7. Press (Down Arrow) button once. The control panel will display COLD RESET .
8. Press (Select). The printer will perform a cold reset and then continue its power-on sequence.

The two most typical causes for this type of behaviour are:

1. wrong print driver being used. Ensure that you are either using the proper HP print driver for the 4600 or the HP Universal Print driver.

2. Bad communication cable, loose connectors or dirty connectors.

Try printing the configuration page from the control panel. If that prints ok then it is more likely the two above causes. If the configuration page prints wrong then you probalby have a formatter issue or memory issue.

To print the configuration page, press the down arrow until it reads information, press the check mark, then use the down arrow until configuration page shows then press the check mark again.

Try to click on 'magenta' for instance, and follow the leads to a solution for your black only print problem.
