In your problem #1. try to do a fine tuning of the channel or adjust the horizontal adjustments. For the problem#2. Access the system setup of your television, from there you can choose either PAL signal or NTSC signal to operate in your system.

Convergence ICs and CK all Pico Fuses around ICs they will look like resistors but will be Green or Yellow 5amp, 6amp, 7amp Fuses. Big Black ICs they will have the PN# on them

It sounds like it required a new lamp a while ago and now just sits there.
I suggest a new lamp and reset the timer will probably fix your problem.

from the symptons you descibed this sounds like a convergence issue. this might be a problem with some intergrated curcits or chips call stk's (ic8001, 8002) they may need to be replaced

Is your bulb still good? You can extend its life by making sure the vent slots on the front and back of the set are cleaned out regularly. Vents plugged with dust will not allow adequate cooling airflow over the bulb.

On-line bulb prices range from $30 for cheap Chinese generic bare bulb replacements (quality unknown) to $150 or more for brand-name lamps already assembled into a housing. If you go with the bare bulb, you need to be able to assemble the bulb into the housing (tools required) while wearing vinyl gloves. Touching a bare bulb with bare fingers will ruin the bulb. Skin oil will react with the quartz when it gets hot and cause discoloration and possibly chemical breakdown leading to a bulb explosion.

hello unless the engineer tested the fuse then there could be a number of thing's wrong 1 it could be a transistor 2 could be a diode 3 could be a capacitor 4 it could be a resistor and so on . there could be just a dry joint i'd get another couple of quote good luck

Hi,

You have a defective convergence output IC. Your set has two of these and they should both be replaced.

If you are handy with electronics and can solder and unsolder electronic components, you might be able to fix this yourself. I can give you some pointers if you feel comfortable doing this.

If you decide to call a tech, give him the make and model number, tell him what you told me and that you suspect a convergence output IC failure. He should immediately know exactly what to do, what parts to bring, and be able to fix it in your home in a little over an hour. Cost should be in the $300 range, depending on where you live.

The IC's in your set are part number STK392-XXX, and you can order them from :-

If you take the back off of your set, you will see a large circuit board on the left. That is the D Board. On the back of this board is a heat sink where these two IC's are mounted. You need to get this board out of the set far enough so that you can work on it. There will be wire clamps that you have undo and connectors you have to remove. The connectors on the edge of the board that connect it to the board on the right just pry up. Don't try to remove the large red wire from the high voltage transformer to the HV distribution block, it's a real pain and you can work on the board without having to do this.

Then just unsolder the old IC's and solder in the new ones, and that is generally all you need to do.

Please run the convergence feature on your TV. Its giving you double image because the red, green, and blue guns are disaligned. By running convergence it will realign the guns properly. You need to run the convergence feature at least once a week. Please note this is only for CRT rear projection TV's and I assumed it was. If it is an LCD rear projection, then there's nothing you can do to fix such thing, but call a repair person. But if doing the convergence doesn't fix the problem, you need to call a repair person. But I hope you won't have to. Please refer to your TV's manual on how to do convergence and how to overlap the crosses because every CRT projection TV is different.

Your unit is HDTV ready but is not an HDTV. It is capable of displaying HDTV only through the component inputs. Your tuner is analog NTSC and will not receive HDTV or digital.

You could get an HDTV picture using a Blue Ray DVD and hooking up the component connectors from the DVD to the TV.

The only other way would be to get an HDTV tuner with a component output and hook it up the same way, component out to component in, and hook the tuner input to an off air antenna (receiving HDTV) or cable or satellite with HD signals.

The tv have a problems known as a convergence problems,it dead.The tv have any colors lines R,G.B mis alignment,picture have colors shadows or 3D pictures.The tv convergence board the 2 STK convergence ICS and some or it resistors are dead.These parts on the tv convergence board,must be replaced to solved the tv convergence problems.The shop,will cost u $300-350 for parts and labors.

This model uses two of the STK-392-560 CHIPS.

You would need to get the board (it is on the left as you look from the back) out to replace the chips.

Convergence is protected by at least 5 pico fuses---orange and are highlighted in one of the photos I am going to attach.

Total parts cost on EBAY for parts will be under 25 dollars total.

These sets are famous for bad picture tubes. It is normally either the blue or green tube that goes out in these. One way that you can usually tell, is to gently tap the neck(the glass tube at the bottom of each of picture tubes) w/ the handle of a screwdriver while the set is on and see if that will make it act up. If it isn't that, then there may be a loose connection somwhere on the board. You can also tap around on the boards to see if the problem occurs to find out if it's a loose connection. A picture tube will be costly if you can find one. They are hard to find and to change. You may need to get a tech to give you an estimate and see.
