Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.
This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....
•Screen looks 3D
•Colors don't line up
•One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
•Screen is bowed or warped.
•TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.

Typical convergence problem

See attached photos, it sounds like a convergence problem.

The model indicated uses two of the STK-392-560 chips for this. Usually replacing both will fix the problem.

Total parts cost on EBAY for this repair (I use the seller) will be under 25 dollars and repair takes less than a hour.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right. And you should be able to get the grid straight.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a fix

Hi,
I'm Sony tv tech and confirm that this tv does not need to reset lamp hours after lamp replacement, tv will work smoothly.
Lamp hours/ timer need to be reset in other brands tv but not in Sony lcd rear projection. Just replace lamp and turn On tv for good picture.

This is usually an easy fix. Depending how your tv is connected. Most probably it is the input you are on, or not on. Get your Sony remote look for a SOURCE or INPUT button. Press it and go to each input, for example, HDMI-1 2, INPUT-1,2 VID-1.2.etc.. Also check to see if your cables in the back is loose or out. Hope this helps

the sony type 1 convergence repair kit from www.tvrepairworld.com should solve the issue. The kit contains the parts and the CD with instructions.

sounds like some of the 4.7 ohm resistors may be burnt. or possibly a solder short on the IC pins.

Ur tv now,totally have dead parts,on the tv convergence board.That,why ur flash foucus or manual covergence alignment R,G,B colors line will not matches up.The convergence board parts 2 STK convergence ICS and some or all it resistors,must be replaced to solved convergence problems.The shop will cost u $300-350 for parts and labors.

No you just need to install a convergence repair kit. Your model uses the Sony type 1 convergence repair kit available from www.tvrepairworld.com the kit contains the parts and the CD with detailed instructions.

THE click is the relay on the power board coming on and then going off---red power light should blink a error code---when set shuts off (second click) watch the power light and count the blinks.

If problem does not fix by flash focus/ convergence adjustment in Menu then replace convergence output ICs on D board of tv that sounds defective and causing problem.
Comvergence output ICs replacement requires soldering work with proper tools and electronics knowledge/ experience, call local tech if you have no experience.

The tv have a problems known as a convergence problems,it dead.Any colors R,G,B are out of alignment.The tv convergence board the 2 STK convergence ICS and some or all it resistors are dead.These parts,must be replaced to solved the convergence problems.The shop will cost u $300-350 for parts and labors.

hello it sound like the convergance ic may be the problem these chips sit behind the tuner board connected to a metal frame called a heat sink they are soldered in. also you will have to check the resistor in front of the chips also check the 2 capacitors at either end it would be best to get a quote from and engineer good luck

what is it that you want FIXYA to do in this situation?
We do not recommend board swapping or DIY
Call a technician to get oit fixed these problems are not DIY as they require circuit diagram skill special tools to check voltage and ohmage and an understanding of High voltage safety.. Board swapping newver fixes it, only on a tempory basis at best and at greater expense in the long run. That is why we suggest not to DIY
