Keyboard not found

Is it a ps/2 or a USB keyboard? If its a USB keyboard it may be that the drivers won't load until you actually log into windows. Only fix is to boot with a ps/2 keyboard.

If its a ps/2 keyboard then you are probably plugging it into the mouse port. doublecheck your locations.

Try starting in safe mode and restore your PC to a date when it was working properly. Then increase the page files allotting it to all partitions, such that its now 3 times that what it was. These page files will be used from your HDD as if it were an extension of RAM. This should prevent any buffer over-run problems that you are facing now....sodeep
PS also clean your C drive if junk files, cookies & stored internet pages(History), defragment your HDD to improve performance.

I need upgrade my memory and need manural to learn how

Hi there.
Your computer will support 2x1GB (2GB max) DDR2 SDRAM.
Installing it is surprisingly easy!!!
Remove the power cord from the back of the tower and then take off the side panel so you can see the motherboard, then look for the ram (memory), it looks like this >>>>>>
e4d6c48.jpg

The slots the clip into look like this >>>>>
d3f3d3a.jpeg
You will will have only 2 of these slots and they may differ in colour, all you have to do is push on the cream tabs to release the memory modules and to put it back in just make sure it clips into place.
Please post back if you need anymore help or advice.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!

EMachine Model T3828 No power

Greetings! As the first answer suggests, you must be comfortable taking things apart. I've actually just finished diagnosing the same problem on a customer's computer, and Here's what I did.

First, I remove the power plug, open up the computer, and inspect the caps (capacitors). If any of them are 'leaking' or 'bulging' or becoming 'pointy', then you are done, your motherboard is at fault for certain. If not, then I continue ...

Second, I have a power supply tester, something you can get at most small mom's-n-pop's computer stores, or online at newegg.com or tigerdirect.com for as little as $25 to $50. I unplug the power supply from the motherboard, both the 20-24 pin connector and the 4-8 pin connector (the 12 volt supply on newer systems 4-5 years old or newer). I plug these into the tester, and test the power supply by plugging the power back into the power supply. If all of the lights on this tester come on, then the power supply works. If they don't, or if they do, but you can smell a rancid burn't smell coming from the power supply when you put your nose next to it, then the power supply is shot. This would be a good time to have another power supply to use to test with the current setup, simply setting atop the current power supply, and replacing the plugs so that the working test power supply is plugged into everything instead, and if that powers the system and it turns on, then you know the power supply is the faulty part.

Next, if the power supply is good, or the test power supply doesn't turn the system on, then I continue to testing the motherboard. I have a POST tester to use for this, but you may not want to spend the $50 on this, and it's rather complicated, so now remove everything from the motherboard except the CPU, RAM, and HDD. this means remove any NIC's, Modems, CD drives, anything and everything. Now try with the test power supply connected to power the machine. If it starts, then it's one of the other parts. if it doesn't, then remove the HDD. Try again. If nothing, then remove the RAM and try again.

If nothing, then the last resort is to remove the CPU heatsink/fan, inspect the CPU, and remove and re-seat the CPU. This step in my opinion should require at least some prior experience with CPU's, and I would suggest having a can of CPU cleaner and a tube of CPU thermal grease to replace the now exposed thermal grease. The reason I would suggest prior CPU experience, is that the thermal grease is 110% necesary for the heat to transfer to the heatsink, and while others may disagree, there is a too much, and it's not a good thing. You need only a very small thin layer of thermal grease, only around 100th of an inch thick, even thinner.

So once re-seating the CPU, re-connect the heatsink and cpu, and try again. Then begin connecting parts one at a time, starting with the RAM, then the HDD, then the optical drive, etc, until either it starts, or everything's plugged in and it doesn't. Sometimes in odd situations, the system will not start with just the CPU, RAM, and HDD, while it will if you add the NIC or the Optical drive. In these strange cases, there's usually something wrong with the motherboard, cpu, or ram, and you'll want to find out from a profesional, or simply replace the motherboard.

In this most recent case I diagnosed with my customer's computer, the motherboard was faulty, with no visible evidence of damage. E-Machine computers most common problem are the motherboard and the power supply. In my experience with my own company, and with the last two computer shops I worked with, E-Machine's have these problems usually at least once within the first year, covered under the Manufacturer Warranty, and then once again after about 5-6 months past the first year. This is due to the cheaper quality parts, cheaper quality soldering, and cheaper construction in general of E-Machines. E-Machine can produce a much less expensive product, though this becomes evident in the quality and expected lifetime of the product.

Sorry to write a novel, but I hope this helps give some perspective on what is done by a technician. Realize, As I work on diagnosing a problem, I'm thinking of a lot more things than just what I've written here, this is just a general synopsis of what I'm doing when I diagnose a system, and should just be used for general diagnostics in the home, or as a begginers basis for working out problems.

T2893 desktop did not power on when I hit the power button

If you can find someone that has the same model, that is the best way to make sure it fits. Some other motherboards will fit, but you may have to do some work to get them to fit. The best way would be to try to do some research on your particular motherboard (mobo) on the internet. Sometimes it will have a manufacture’s name and model on it, try googling it and see what type it says it is (ATX, mini-ATX, AT, etc). One problem you may have is the power button connectors may not be compatible with your new motherboard if you get something besides an emachine mobo. If you are good at electronics it will not be much of a problem for you.

Unless you get an exact e-machines mobo, your OS will most likely not work at startup. Windows XP does not like wholesale changes like a mobo. When it sees that a major configuration change has happened it sometimes freaks out. Sometimes it will just ask you to re-activate windows other times it gets stuck in a reboot loop. Hard rive and CD rom should still work, provide you do not get too new of a mobo. Older HDD and CD drives were IDE connectors, newer ones have SATA connectors. Unless your mobo and power supply unit (PSU) have the correct connectors you will not be able to use them.

To the poster who asked if it could be anything else besides bad mobo. Yes it can occasionally be a bad power supply unit (PSU). A bad PSU does not necessarily mean no power, just not enough power to run the computer. You can try swapping it out with another one of equal or greater output watts. You can try removing the power connectors from the drives and then remove the memory and see if it changes the boot up procedure of your machine. More beeps, different beeps, no beeps, etc. Add one component back at a time to test. Make sure you get the same results and not just a one-time fluke start up. If a memory stick is bad, it usually is bad. A power supply or mobo can be flaky and fail some times and not others.

CPU usage 100%

Increase the RAM, if RAM available is no more than 512MB, then it must be upgraded.

Check also your hard drive state. If you have less than 1GB free, that will slow down the system. Go to Start>>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Disk Defregmenter and do a Defrag of the hard disk.

If you have at least 1 GB RAM, and you took care of the hard drive, then you can check the process starting up on their own and remove the useless one, or spot malaware that can affect speed. You can use a software like Hijack This, and search on google te function of each process started on the list reported by the software.

You can download Hijack this here MajorGeeks | If download does not start, then click at the top of the page, where it says Click Here If It Does Not.
Be careful if you delete the wrong files using this software you can harm the system, and Windows may not work properly.

If you think you have malaware you can also install Spy Bot, and do a system scan. Download Spybot from The home of Spybot.

If all the above does not work, and there is no malaware, then you usually reinstall the system.

Check also the bios settings, BIOS can downgrade the CPU speed on default , even if this is uncommon on recent BIOS.

If a computer is still slow with a fresh system and enough resources then it is one of those rare occasions when you have an hardware fault.
Hardware that can cause slow down is: RAM CPU Motherboard HD Video card.
That is very unusual and sure not your case.

DVD is not being detected by combo drive

Hi Imran,
Sadly this is a fairly common problem with combo drives. In all likelihood, it will cost you more to have the drive repaired than to replace it.
I will suggest purchasing a dvd writer to replace the combo drive.
They are fairly inexpensive.

If you look at the motherboard there is usually a diagram labeled "FRONT PANEL HDR" that will tell you which pins are for: HDD LED, PWR LED, RESET, PWR ON. etc.
The chart / diagram may be a few inches away from front panel header.
the following example is from my emachine T2893 that I had opened because it won't power up.

the motherboard at the header connector labels pin #2 and with that you can figure out the other
pin numbers

example of diagram on motherboard (Confirm the pin numbers on your motherboard)

J9G1 PINS
| HD LED | 1 - 3 |
| PWR LED | 2 - 4 |
| RESET | 5 - 7 |

| PWR ON | 6 - 8 |

Hope this helps you figure which pins to hook you switch up to.
