Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.
The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.
Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program.

I made that as large as possible and still remain withing FixYa's guidelines, it should be large enough to read if not this was on page 128 of the PDF manual or message me back and I'll see if I can make it bigger.

Hi Sandra,
I would suggest that you format the card in the camera.
You will need to insert the card in the camera and then go into the camera's menu system and choose format.
In case formatting the card does not help, please try to use another Memory Card to isolate if this is a card issue or a camera issue.
Also, please check if the card is Write Protected.
Thee is a small sliding lock on the side of the card, you will need to have that in the unlocked position please.
If this doesn't work for you, please comment and let me know, and I will be more than happy to assist you to further resolve your issue.

Try to set all menu items to default as much as you can. Some cameras have a reset to default setting or a button to reset to default.
After setting to default, try the camera again.
If all fails, this camera will need repairs.
If it is too old, and not worth it, it may be the best to sell for parts on a site such as Ebay.
Olympus E-300 Evolt - LCD Screen doesn't come & SSWF light stays on
My camera is working again, but the problem is not completely solved. What I did was to put on the old lens, take out the battery then turn on the camera and finally put on the battery again. And now it works. But the problem with the new lens (Zuiko digital 40-150) continues.

Viewing photos on computer while taking them
I'm afraid there isn't away to do this for free. Olympus sells a program for image workflow and editing called Studio 2 that will also allow you to shoot tethered to your computer. It is $100. They are offering a free trial on the Olympus site:
OLYMPUS Studio.
I also found an independent developer who made a small program to shoot tethered called E-Capture. It's only $10 and may be what you need. This is a link to his blog where he describes it in greater detail and where to get it.

Unscrewing lenses
Hello toccata,
It sounds like your lens mount is cross-threaded. Have you gotten a lens off and looked closely at your camera lens threads. Are they crunched together. You may need to get your cameras lens mount replaced and check all your lenses and see if the threads aren't cross threaded. If a lens has bad threads, don't use it anymore.
On off switch works sporatically
Hello odtom,
Looks like you have the same problem as my Kodak. The contacts below the dial are getting worn and that's why it works intermittently. What I got for my Kodak was some electronic contact cleaner spray at Radio shack and gave it a blast. This worked for about one week and the problem returned. Other than spraying it forever, the mechanism needs the replaced. It's like an old radio with a scratchy sounding volume knob. The contacts are worn out. Time to get it replaced.
