You have to hold down the exposure compensation button at the same time as turning the control dial. The values appear on the control panel screen. I found this on page 33 of the manual... Set the mode dial to M and turn the control dial to set the value. • To set the shutter speed: Turn the control dial. To set the aperture value:Turn the control dial while holding down the [+-](exposure compensation) button. The exposure level indicator appears on the control panel screen, showing the difference (ranging from -3 EV to +3 EV) between the exposure value calculated by the currently selected aperture and shutter speed compared to the exposure value considered optimum by the camera.

hi kate, when you take a pic in auto mode its instant, that's what I always use, but I intend to use manual some time, I think you need to set aperture manualy if you have the manual then read it, if you haven't then you can download it, hope this helps you...

The NIGHT SCENE and NIGHT+PORTRAIT scenes are meant to take time exposures of skylines and city streets by leaving the shutter open for several seconds. Therefore, it is necessary to stabilize the camera by bracing it against something solid or - ideally - by using a tripod or camera clamp. so play around with the shutter speed and bring it to above 100 The procedure is as follows:

1. Set the camera's Mode Dial to the M (Manual) shooting mode.
2. Using the Control Dial(big wheel), set the shutter speed to 100.
3. Holding +/- button and turning the control dail will change focal length.
4. Play around a bit with this too utill you find right lighting for the image you need.
5. Remember slower shutter speed needs long time to process the image

And what do you mean with this?

Sounds like it don't communicate with the card. Try checking if some dust or dirt has blocked the connectors. If so, blow it away with compressed air or a blower intended for photographic gear. If there is dirt on the connectors, try cleaning gently using a pencil eraser (and blow the reminds away). Since you tried another card that's probably not the problem, but remember it's important to erase the card (in the camera!) after transferring the content to your computer... Hope any of this helps. :)

there's a little plastic screw right besides the viewfinder, i think it's on the right side. try to adjust sharpness with this screw (it's actually for people with glasses, allowing them to take pictures without wearing the glasses).

I don't have a solution but I have the same problem, I think the shutter is stuck. I get the error D : 8805Really sucks considering it worked earlier and I JUST got it...

Depending on the size of the xD card, your camera may need a firmware update to be able to read xD cards larger than 256mb. If the card used to work but now doesn't, try formatting it as FAT16 or FAT32 while it's inserted into the camera. If you still get an error and you have a card reader on your PC, try formatting it from there as FAT16 or FAT32 file formats.

Sound like a problem with your LCD screen, related with the CCD Image Sensor; confirm if the menu settign can view, if YES and that you can view mode and setting displays, isn't the LCD screenviewer.

The CCD Image Sensor isnt a job that you can do it, I suggest visit your techinician service or apply if has underwarranty.
