My camera lens won't extract in ?.
Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...
Here's some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for less than 50% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try:

Camera lense stuck in
Gear box problem ( not so expensive to repair ) or lens impacted ( this type of problem can be sorted out only by replacing the entire lens unit and is often uneconomical ).

This means that you are using the wrong type of battery. You have to purchase a battery specifically designed for Digital cameras. Also i would suggest you use rechargeable batteries.

Boot up the computer with camera not connected.
Connect USB cable to camera and computer if running WinXP, and turn on camera. The rest should be easy, the only setback is if you did not install the photo editing software that usually comes with the camera. If not, you might be able to use Windows software, but a few free photo editing software packages are online. Use Google to find them, the best being Google's Picasa. Good Luck!
Can I have the service
Before you try to send it out to get it fixed, make sure that you can't solve the problem yourself. First, get new batteries or charge the ones you have. Make sure the battery contacts are clean and batteries are placed properly. Then attempt to start the camera and try to identify any problems.
The nearest factory service may be a long way, and shipping costs with time delays might suggest replacing the camera first.
Good luck!
Camera won't come on
Open the camera and remove the batteries. Use the eraser on the end of a pencil to reach up inside the camera and gently clean the battery contacts. Be careful not to bend the contacts. Don't use a lot of pressure or a lot of scrubbing, just let the slight abrasiveness of the pencil eraser do the cleaning. Use a pencil with a good clean eraser, not one with a dried out, hard, old eraser. Hold the camera in the normal upright position and reach in from the bottom with the pencil, so all of the eraser bits and dirt fall out of the camera. Check that there are no dirt or eraser bits left inside after you are done cleaning.
Clean the contacts on the battery compartment door the same way.
Hope this helps. It fixed my vivitar 5385 that would not turn on, and had the light blinking.
