Cannot connect DVD Player to cable ready television

If your tv does not have the standard 3 plug video ports ( Yellow, White, Red ) then you will need an RF modulator to step in between the Direct TV box and the tv on the cable line.
RadioShack sells them as well as many other places. http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2103095

Remote has failed to work. It's not the batteries.

It is possible that you spilled something on your remote which has caused it to fail or it is possible that the remote is just broken. If you have the skills to take it apart and see if there is a problem inside, then go for it. Otherwise you can order a new remote control from a site like www.newremotecontrol.com

No longer plays color picture

Try the settings for "pal - ntsc - cvbs" video formats, if the tv and dvd aren't set the same, then this can cause the problem(usually with distortion to picture, depending on how it's mis-matched)

Remote control not functioning properly

I work for Coby technical support. Our customer service phone number is 1-800-727-3592.

It sounds like the remote needs to be replaced. Below is the procedure you would follow to obtain a replacement remote from COBY.

To obtain a replacement part from COBY, you must follow these instructions:
Please send:

1. A money order made out to COBY Electronics in the amount of $6.00 (FOR EACH PART ORDERED! -- TFDVD batteries cost $18.00)
2. A note with your full name, phone number, and return address.
3. A note detailing the model number of the device/unit and the part being requested.
4. If you're requesting a replacement remote please write the numbers found on the back of the remote on the note mentioned above.

We strongly suggest you either send the above requirements via certified mail OR with delivery confirmation which is available from the post office. And please hold on to your money order receipt/stub.

COBY will not make return shipments to a P.O. Box. For shipping to international addresses, actual freight will be charged. Please mail the above requirements to:

Customer Service
COBY Electronics Corp.
56-65 Rust Street
Maspeth, NY 11378

Failure to enclose the above requirements will result in a delay in the processing of your part request. Please allow 4 weeks for the processing of your request; allow 6 weeks during the November to February holiday season.

While this solution doesn't "fix" your problem, I hope that by giving you the facts, I've enabled you to make an informed decision as to what to do next.

Please let me know if I can assist you further.

Picture is split -- says P-SCAN. It's stuck

that means it is stuck on progressive scan.  If your tv is not able to handle progressive scan, you need to change it back or reset the player.
The DVD player may be set to Progressive Scan Mode. You will need to change it to Video Mode by using the remote control. Point the remote control directly at the DVD player, and then press the PSCAN button 2-3 times. If you are still encountering problems with the DVD player, reset the unit back to the default setting.

To Reset,
Make sure you do not have a disk in the tray. Using the DVD player remote control: 1) Press the “Setup” button. 2) On the “Down” arrow, press it three times. 3) On the “Right’ arrow, press it once. 4) On the “Down” arrow, press it three times. 5) On the “Right” arrow, press it once, then press “Enter”. 6) Press the Setup button. *The default setting will take affect as soon as you press the setup button (step 6).
Hope it helps..please rate!

Wrong disc error

I work for Coby technical support. Our customer service phone number is 1-800-727-3592.

Unfortunately, if the player will no longer read any commercial dvd that you attempt to play, the unit is defective and needs to be replaced. The unit has a 90 day warranty from the date of purchase. You will need the receipt in order to receive a warranty exchange.

If you feel this solution doesn't deserve a good rating, please let me know why so that I may better assist you. If there is anything more I can do to help, I will!

Philips universal remote not working for my coby dvd 224

I work for Coby technical support. Our customer service phone number is 1-800-727-3592.

Traditionally, universal remotes do not work with COBY dvd players. The fact that you've found one that works at all is surprising. There isn't a true solution to your problem, however, because Philips created the coding for that remote without any input from COBY. The only thing you can try is a different COBY code if there is one in the code section of the book that came with your Philips remote.

While this solution doesn't "fix" your problem, I hope that by giving you the facts, I've enabled you to make an informed decision as to what to do next.

Please let me know if I can assist you further.

Video fluctuations

Is this happening with commercial dvds or disks that you've burned? If it's happening with commercial disks, I would suggest trying the player on a different TV to see if the same thing happens. If it does, something is wrong with the player.

The warranty on the player is 90 days from the date of purchase. A receipt is required for warranty exchange.

Stuck in pscan, no book, help

By "pscan", I'll assume you mean progressive scan mode?

disconnect unit from A/C power. Hold in power button, plug unit into wall whilst holding in power button for 10-15 seconds.

If that doesn't reset unit, then simply hold power button in for 30 seconds whilst power is already applied to the unit. That not work?

Toss unit into the garbage.

I have DVD-224 player that won't open to put disk in

Is this a $30 DVD player? How old is it? Either take it back from whence you purchased it for a replacement, or toss it in the trash.

I have 2 dvd players that have gone out on me this

The Coby 224 is a bottom of the line "piece of cheap Chinese crud". No offense, but this is a DVD player that costs more to ship it over here than it does to manufacture the product. Purchase something a bit more substantial for continued dvd viewing.
