Dvd player door does not open
Check to see if anythig is blocking the tray from opening. Also the tray motor or connections may be failing. I would open the case, remove and replace as many connections, one at a time, to make sure the connections were good. If the tray still does not move, then one or more than one component has failed. It could be an electronic component or the motor.
Wrong disc
Try an other good disc. If the problem perists, repalce the optical pickup unit.

I work for COBY tech support. Our customer service phone number is 1-800-727-3592.
Unfortunately, if you're getting that error message on every disk you try to play, it means the player has developed a problem in the dvd mechanism. This can't be repaired.
The warranty is 90 days from the day of purchase. A receipt would be required for warranty exchange.
While this solution doesn't "fix" your problem, I hope that by giving you the facts, I've enabled you to make an informed decision as to what to do next.
Please let me know if I can assist you further.

Check your connections and settings. Make sure your Coby DVD is properly connected to your TV and that your TV is set to the correct input setting. If you are using a home theater receiver, again make sure the DVD player is properly connected and the receiver is on the correct input. Consider connecting another device to the same inputs to determine whether the problem is your Coby DVD player or some other device in your setup.
Set "Vol" to at least 50 percent. Disconnect, and then reconnect any headphones or external speakers you may have connected to the player, pushing the plug securely into place to ensure a correct fit.
Check the user manual of the DVD player you are using to watch the DVD. Some stand-alone DVD players do not play certain formats of home-created DVDs. You may find the DVD player does not properly read the format you are using, causing the lack of audio. There isn't anything you can do about this issue other than play the DVD on a different player.

Look over the volume controls of the TV or computer. You may just have the volume options turned all the way down (or muted), causing the lack of audio.
Look on the bottom of the DVD for any dust or debris. Debris can block important audio rendering information on the disc, causing the audio problem. Although this generally causes both audio and video issues, cleaning off the bottom of the DVD may help correct the problem.
If after checking the connections, and still no solution, you might need to replace the sound IC...
