Hi autobossf, one thing that it might be is too much oil in the crankcase. Check the level of oil and make sure it is not above the full mark. You could have worn rings and/or worn valve guides that are letting oil into the combustion chamber causing burned oil out of the muffler as smoke. no info generic answer on most remove rear cover panel to access trans axle or axle --for mid size plug lower section under linkage --small ones no service port ------on larger with a transmission plug on side

There should be 5 positions for the gear selector.

Neutral
Reverse
Forward 1 wheels only
Forward 2 wheels and tines reverse rotation
Forward 3 wheels and tines forward rotation

If you have reverse tines only, then the problem is internal to the transmission. My guess is the wheel drive chain.
