Probably not the squelch but the speaker on the VHF. These radios are famous for crapping out when getting wet. Try listening to the weather radio VHF ch 01, 02, or 03. depending on your location and play with squelch.. Keep in mind they do make external speakers you can hook up.

First of all check if your antenna cable is in good shape. Check if there are no shorts in the connectors between the center lead and the screen tress. Also check if the center lead is soldered into his connector pin on each connector on the cable. Set squelsh just out of the noise zone.

• Then go to page 15 - 53 (chapter 6) for the programming / transmitting / receiving procedure.

• This is not a simple procedure. It will take some fooling around with and lots of time.. Every HAM has to master their radio. I urge you to read that section of the manual and follow it step by step and don't get over frustrated at it. It's gonna take some time for you to get the hang of this part of your radio.

We had the same problem with our Uniden Oceanus failing to communicate with our GPS. What the problem was, was that our VHF didn't recognize the NMEA sentences transmitted from our "ancient" GPS. We ended up buying a Standard Horizon cp180 chartplotter. PRESTO! Our DSC capability materialized.

Your 76CSx is newer than our Magellan was, so before you take on the task of a $400 chartplotter purchase, just make sure your BAUD rate is set to 4800. This adjustment alone could make your GPS work with your ICOM.

I had the same problem and traced it to a bad connection between flex cables and boards.It seems the SQL signal from the Rx board is not reaching the processor on the front panel. Check all connections (reseat all cables) and try again.
