I just got a CG-500-C, i'm pretty sure that the CG-500 is a table top machine, and the C Stands for Cabinet, meaning the CG-500-C is mountable in a cabinet, to fold away when not in use. like gramma used to have.

Top threading most likely out of track.

When's the last time it had a professional cleaning and lubrication? My guess is the lubricants have solidified. Or you may have a warped or wobbly or missing tooth in a gear or three.

Unless you need all the bells and whistles to sew get you a pre-1930 treadle or handcrank. I have 2 electric Singers, 1947 model 66 and 1948 201-2 both with attachments. Also I have 1903 Singer handcrank made in Scotland. The plastic new one just don't have the ability to hang in there .... All my pre 1930 Singers sew... I love them!

Probably thread wrapped around something....takeup crank, motor pully...if you can get inside to have a look great, if not, find someone who can.

do you have a top loading bobbin or a bottom loading bobbin?

I had this same problem and I was told to make sure the bobbin is in with the thread coming out counter-clockwise and it solved the problem for me on all three of my machines. A lot of times the needle will pick it up but you have to do a full rotation on the handwheel. I hope that helps
