Multiplication button won't work

If the button is sticking, here's a quick way to clean it - remove the batteries, then get a cotton swab (like a Q-tip) and soak it in Isopropyl Alcohol, then clean all around the button, letting some alcohol soak in around the button. Work the button up and down for about 20 seconds, then let it dry for a couple of hours. I try to use the 90% Isopropyl Alcohol, but lower will also work - you can get this at a drug store or at Wal-Mart. The alcohol won't damage anything, and the higher the percentage you buy, the faster it will evaporate.

Binompdf equals 0?

If the probability of passing the driving test is 0.8, then the probability of exactly 11 people passing the test out of 200 candidates is less than 1 in 10^100, which is zero as far as the calculator is concerned. Is this what you're trying to calculate? If you want to know the probability that 11 or more people have passed, then you want 1-binomcdf(200,.8,10) which will give you 1 since the probability of 10 or fewer passing is zero. Think about it. If you have a group of 200 adults, how likely is it that only 11 of them have driver's licenses?

Ti-83 won't turn on

Make sure you have the batteries in correctly. You may want to put fresh ones in for these procedures to work. The batteries alternate negative, positive, negative, positive. The first time I put my batteries in, I had one backwards and, it was hard to see that it was in backwards.

Make sure the IO ports at the top or, button of the calculator are clean. You don't want a dirty connection missing the procedure up later on.

Please be prepared to re-install the calculator's OS if you run through this process.

Press and release the 2ND key. Press and hold the Up-arrow key for a few seconds. Now, Pressing the [2nd] key followed by pressing and releasing the up arrow; repeat as necessary. Is the screen showing any activity? If not continue the process.
  1. Remove one of the AAA batteries. Press and hold the [CLEAR] key. While holding [CLEAR],
reinsert the AAA battery and then turn the calculator on. The calculator should display the
message "RAM Cleared". Release the [CLEAR] key and then press it one more time to remove the message. If calculator did not display the message try pressing and releasing the [2nd] key followed by pressing and releasing the up arrow for one second. Goto step 2.
  2. Remove one of the AAA batteries. Press and hold the [DEL] key. While holding [DEL], reinsert the AAA battery and then turn the calculator on. The calculator should display
"Waiting...Please install calculator software now". Follow the instructions for the
TI-83 family or TI-84 Plus family to reinstall the calculator operating system. If the calculator did not turn on connect the calculator to the computer and open Ti Connect. Next, open Device Explorer. Is the calculator asking to be installed? goto step 3.
  3. Steps to re-installing the operating system:

~Connect the TI Connectivity cable between the PC and the calculator.
~Click on Start >> Programs >> TI Tools >> TI Connect >> TI OSDownloader
~Follow the on-screen directions to reinstall the calculator's OS. When or, if the calculator install the fresh OS goto step 4.

  4. Remove all of the batteries including the round lithium battery for 5 minutes. After the 5 minute period, reinsert all of the batteries and turn the calculator on. Adjust the contrast if necessary.

If this process did not work for. Try re-doing the process and, extend the time by 5 minutes before you put all the batteries back in the calculator.

TI-83 have adjusted the brightness but can't type or see flashing indicator

If the screen is not busted, adjust the contrast without going all the way to totally dark or to totally blank. Calculators do occasionally become unusable (old age, mishandling).

How do I find the

To find the tangent of an angle:

  1. input TAN (it's up one and left one from the division key)
  2. then the desired angle
  3. then a close parenthesis
  4. And then hit ENTER

To find the inverse tangent:

  1. Press 2nd
  2. Press TAN (TAN-1)
  3. Enter the desired tangent value
  4. close parenthesis
  5. hit enter

this will give you the angle that yields that tangent value.

You might have to switch your calculator from radian to degrees or from degrees to radians to get the expected result. To do that:

  1. Press MODE
  2. Scroll down to where it says ANGLE
  3. change it from either RAD or DEG

Good luck

My ti 83 plus said

TI calculators have an annoying habit of dimming the screen when the batteries are changed so that it appears as if the calculator isn't turning on. Turn the calculator on (or at least press the ON key). Press and release the 2ND key. Press and hold the Up-arrow key for a few seconds and see whether the screen becomes legible.

If that doesn't do it, please add a comment to this post and we'll go on from there.

Dead Battery?

Take out the batteries. Also take out the backup battery. It is a button battery beneath the screw in the battery compartment. Check the button battery volts with a multi-meter. After 5 minutes put the button battery back in and then the fresh batteries. It might work now. Alternatively take out a battery, then hold the clear button and put the battery back in. Then try to turn on. If it still does not work take out a battery press the del button and put the battery back in.

I would like to change the input style of the calculator to reverse polarity. Can this be done

Do you mean Reverse Polish Notation (RPN)? There is nothing built-in, but there are a number of programs available for various TI calculators to make them take RPN. See http://www.ticalc.org/cgi-bin/websearch.cgi

How to check how much battery is left?

If the battery level drops to a certain level the calculator will tell you so when you turn it on. Otherwise there is no battery status indication, that is, if the calculator doesn't tell you the batteries are low then they're still good. If you really want to know the battery level, take the batteries out and check them one by one with a voltmeter.
