Texas Instruments TI-83 Plus Calculator - Answered Questions & Fixed issues

Wow, I'm in the exact same situation. I've had my trusty TI for 6 years and now all of a sudden this gibberish is on the screen. You're right, there is absolutely nothing you can do to fix it. Guess we'll have to bite the bullet and buy a new one. 

Use the xth-root function to compute any root. It's the fifth entry on the MATH menu, which you can get by pressing the MATH key. The fourth entry on the same menu gives you the third root without needing the 3 to be specified.

For example, to compute the 5th root of 32, press 5 MATH 5 3 2 ENTER.

You should learn about scientific notation. The two values are the same, just written differently.

If you're talking about your laptop, try to gently remove the button and clean it with a laptop cleaner. spray a bit of it on a small piece of cotton until its damp, not wet, and clean the area, and put the button back on. If it is infact something wrong with the sensor take it to a local computer store. If you're working with a mac, apple should have a solution for you.

You have attempted to use, edit, or delete an archived variable. For example, the expression dim(L1) produces an error if L1 is archived

sin(x)^2 sin^2 and its kkn are an unusual notation, compared with other functions. For example, you don't write log^2(x) but instead log(x)^2.

Press the S<>D key to toggle between symbolic and decimal notation.

Having gone over half a year without a response to my query, I assume my suggestion to adjust the screen contrast solved the problem.

This means both your Xscl and Yscl values are too small. Fix this on the WINDOW screen, as explained under My screen is covered with horizontal or vertical lines.

If it's just a single line then it sounds like that the screen is not connected probably or is shot...

if it's more of a "flurry" or snow... then you can connect to another unit via the I/O cable or usb if your model has it, and use the "send OS" command to start from scratch and lose all data but have a working calculator.

Solve for x, do not try to graph it using the TI 83 Plus. It only graphs functions not equations.

Does not exist on TI8x Family.

You can do that only if the decimal part (the part after the decimal point) is exactly 0. Anything else will be a rational number { a fraction with integer numerator and denominator}

Invalid dimension is displayed if the two columns have unequal length (number of elements). Try plotting the scatter plot first, then worry with the Zoom.

If you fill all the entry line memory, the calculator stops responding. Clear entries to free memory.

I get the same answer. Is b wrong? When I do it in Excel I get b= -2E+06, which is -1 797 322.99 rounded to the millions, in scientific notation. Let me know if you have any questions. Good luck, Paul

make sure that there is nothing sticky in your calculator. It's likely that you got something sticky in there and now the pin that you would push down when you push the key is permently down. So if you can kinda try to make it not stick then your set. If it's a teqnical problem then it's time to buy a new calculator. I just went and bought a ti 84 silver and it's great. Best of luck
