The netbook will not connect

On the front edge, there are two slide switches with LEDs built into them. The Left switch toggles power and the Right switch toggles WiFi and Bluetooth.
If this does not work goto Device Manager and see if the wireless adapter is installed correctly. If not, download the appropriate drivers from Dell and install them.

Hope it helps.

I want to know how

@ customersvcs

HP laptops have a built-in recovery mode on the system wherein you don't need to use a disc to restore it to factory default. The hotkey for the recovery is the F10 key. After you press the power button, you need to simultaneously press the F10 key to start system recovery. If this one won't work for you, you need to order the recovery discs from HP at 1-800-474-6836 (you need to have an external dvd reader to load the discs). If you're still under warranty, they'll give it to you for free.

Cheers

Why can't i format the hard drive on a hp mini

try a utility called "FDisk" Youll need an external drive,,only certain netbooks give you the option to format or restore to factory settings, this model has many different versions and only some of them offer factory restoration/formatting.

I am selling my computer

If you have the restore disks then you can do a factory reset. If there is no restore disk then you will have to re-install windows from the Windows Installation CD. If you do not have the CD then you may want to sell the system without any operating system.Download a boot disk called Boot and Nuke to format your hard drive before you sell the system. This will erase ALL data from your hard drive.

Disc Drives can be rented/bought at stores such as Best Buy, Rent-a-center (or some other rental store). Going to a tech support at a place like best buy (Geek Squad) will have people who can re-install your software.

I have tried to fix

Hi, if you cannot see a display on your monitor, there are a few things you can do. The easiest and first thing you should do, is plug an external monitor into the VGA port on your netbook. That way, you will know if your computer is still working. Also, make sure the power lights are on when you turn the computer on. Next, you can try this. Find the function button that corresponds with one of the F# keys i.e. F4 or F8 that controls the LCD display. It will either say CRT/LCD or will have a picture of two monitors on it, something like that. Then, press the Function key (Fn) and that corresponding key at the same time and see if the display comes back. Press it once and wait a minute, if nothing happens press it again and do the same thing. Do it a few times. You may also have to do that when you plug in your external monitor as well to get a display on it. What that does is tell the computer to display the image on an external monitor.

Hp mini 1000 does not

Hi there,

The front of the HP Mini 1000 Netbook has two switches and two small lights. The two switches are for power and wireless. The two lights are for hard drive activity and power. Both the power and Wi-Fi switch are designed exactly the same. They are flat with a little bump where a light is.

Check if the switch is on before trying to reinstall the driver.

Hope this helps!

My hp mini just shut

The first thing that I try with a situation like this is:

1) Remove power cable from unit.
2) Remove battery from the bottom of the unit.
3) Attempt to power the unit on without any power going to it (unplugged.. no battery..it won't turn on obviously.. but that's what we want.)
4) Plug power cable back into it and test. If it works, reinsert the battery and thats it!

Good luck!

Hard disk making funny noise

You either have an error with your hard disk or with the Windows partition files.

Some HP Mini Netbooks have a hard drive self-test feature. In order to check for a hard drive problem, turn on your computer and press the "F10" key during startup. This will open the Setup Utility. Use the arrow keys to navigate to the "Diagnostics" menu, then highlight "Hard Disk Self Test". Let the test run fully. If it reports an error(s), then you have a damaged/defective hard drive, and you will need to replace it by either contacting HP through their support site, or by replacing the drive yourself with a new one.

If the Setup Utility cannot detect your hard drive at all, then you either have a defective hard drive /or/ a defective SATA controller (this is what connects your hard drive to the computer). Unless you can connect your hard drive to another computer, it is very hard to determine which is causing the problem. You should contact HP if you are under warranty, or check in at a local computer repair shop if you are not.

If there are no errors reported with your hard drive, then either your hard drive only fails some of the time (and you should be able to boot into Windows at the moment), or there is a problem with the partition (section) on your hard drive that handles booting up. You will need to reformat the hard drive and reinstall Windows in this case.
