This is not an uncommon problem with vista. These lnk files should open the underlying exe file, but if the registry has been altered they will open something else. The following link will take you to a registry fix program that will restore the correct file association for lnk files. www.winhelponline.com/fileasso/lnkfix_vista.zip as always read the instructions and make sure that this will work for your version of windows. Not all fixes work for all versions. If you do not have vista or you have other doubts, go to the microsoft forums for your windows version and search for lnk files.

Hi,I also have an HP and also had the same issue with a no power, go and remove the battery from the Laptop and try to connect the AC Adapter again and try to power on the Laptop if the Machine turns ON without the Battery in it then the issue can be 2 things it is either the battery is dead or the battery bay on your laptop need to be checked for repairs on the issue...and the only people to got to best would be HP, also if you can try a known good battery that works and connect it to your Laptop to check if it will turn ON that may also work and if the Laptop does turn ON using a known good Battery then the issue is just the battery and nothing related to the battery bay on the lsptop, which makes thing easier since a new battery is easier to buy than having your laptop sent back to the manufacturer for repairs.I hope that the issue is just the Battery.Try a known good battery first before having someone open your Laptop :)have a Good Day .

if you want to do the factory default setting then you need to install the operating system with the help of recovery cd's.

if you have the recovery cd's you need to connect the usb external cd/dvd drive to the computer.

if you don't have the recovery cd's you can get it from www.hp.com or you can call hp telephone support they will help you out.

Go to control panel then click on internet options after the internet options window opens click on the advance tab then look at the bottom you will see reset. Click on reset then try to launch the IE again.

If the bios don't have password just press F2 when booting, if have password need to open the machine and remove the CMOS battery (the battery is like a coin) for about 10 sec.

dis-connect the power supply adapter and the main battery, press and hold power for 60 seconds to reset the processor, now hook everything back up and power on.

Plug in an external monitor and see if the display shows up on it. It can beany kind of monitor even the old big fat crt monitors as long as it has a vgacable to connect to your computer's vga port. If so that proves yourvideo card is ok. The video will show on most systems when you rebootwithout you having to do anything. Some systems will require you to hit the FN(Function key) + F1 thru F12. Hold down the FN key then hit the correctkey for displaying on the monitor (F1 thru F12). The correct key willnormally have CRT/LCD on it or it will have the icon of a display. If you see no icons by shinning a flash light and the external monitor works,then your screen is bad. If you see no icons by shinning the flash lightand nothing shows on the external monitor, then most likely your video card isbad.

Sounds like your lcd screen is going bad and needs to be replaced.

The LCD inverter seems to be faulty .

the ploblem with the screen is that it has gone bad, you will have to replace it. you can find one on e-bay for around 35 to 65 bucks. look up a company called screen aid. they sometimes have a special running. if you think that it would be difficult to replace it yourself, please take it to a qualified person.

try removing the battery and starting up on mains power only, if this works you need a new battery
