Sorry i nay be a month late on this thread... but better late than never. My Girlfriends sony vaio VGN-CS215J seems to be doing the exact same thing. After buying one of those computer fans that you rest the computer oneverything seems to be running normal. i would also recommend cleaning your fans inside the computer because dirt dust and grime can hold the fans back from cooling down the laptop efficiently and will cause the safety overheat shutdown to activate and shutdown your computer... that way it does catch on fire or fry any of your hardware inside of your computer.
If that does not work... your fans maybe malfunctioning or not functioning at all. this model of vaio has a grinding fan issue that can be very damaging to your cpu if not fixed.
On a desktop this is usually as easy as setting a jumper to reset it but on a laptop it is alot trickier. from what my research has told me Sony will help you with this issue with Tech support. You will need a valid proof of purchase for them to help you. If you registered the laptop when it was bought or if you have a warranty on it through who you purchased it from, even Sony this would make proof of purchase that much easier Click this link HERE for the 1800 number to Sony. There are instructions there. I hope this helps.
A laptop switching off automatically is an 80% chance that it happened because it overheated. To avoid damage computers turn off immediately, very high temperatures can cause fire or smoke.
I suspect that the ventilation fans of your laptop have either stopped working or have caught up too much dust to work properly. Do you use your it on a carpet or a bed? If yes then you are blocking the ventilation so there is no way your PC will cool itself.
First, check if your PC starts making a lot of noise a while after you turn it on. Put your hands on the vents and check if you feel air blowing out. You should feel warm air coming out. If the air speed feels weak, most probably you will have to get the fans clean; a lot of dust has gone in. If you dont feel any air at all or a very weak flow the fans might have broken and need to be replaced.
Check out this video for info:
Finally, I highly recommend you use a laptop cooling pad. There is a huge variety of those in the market. Depending on where the vents are located there are different types of coolers. I personally use a Antec Laptop Cooler. It helps keep my laptop cool specially when I am gaming. Of course you can for another one of your choice but thats a headstart. Let me know if you need more help.
the port on the laptop probably needs to be resoldered. Most people replace the port thinking it is bad, which can damage the motherboard unless you have a desoldering tool. The port is simply two pices of metal that go from the cord to the board, so if it was actually bad, the piece would probably fall right out, therefore I never advise replacement. Pull the case apart enough to get to the port, hook up the cord and test for power on the backside of the port, if there is power test for power on the board right in front of the port, both common and hot. You probably won't find positive voltage. If you don't detect voltage resolder the power port. There are fuses, usually about 1/16"x3/32" or 1/8x3/16, very small. They will stick out, usually green or yellow. The very small ones usually look almost clear. There are also fuses about the same size that are black and usually have a 0 written on them, to test the fuses simply test for continuity or with power plugged in test for voltage on both sides, same as you would anything else. If you are checking a black fuse and only receive voltage on one side, make sure it is not a diode. To test this, unplug the power, and use the diode check if your meter is equipped with it or ohms if not, test with positive on one side and then reverse the leads. Diodes only let voltage pass in one direction so it will read open on one side and will give a reading on the other. To make thing as easey as possible, I usually resolder the power plug before even testing for power, just in case it happens to test good when i check it and then wiggles just right when I am testing elsewhere, basically it can really confuse you and cause hours of work when it was the problem the whole time.
AV, is Audio Visual, thats a way of getting data out, or in, in that AV format. But in your case,
The S1 mode is a shortcut button that you can customize to perform numerous tasks such as muting the volume, putting the NR to sleep, etc. The AV Mode button launches a giant taskbar at the top of the screen that lets you open the DVD software or go on the Internet.
i dont have any pictures but the steps are outlined as follows.
1.) remove laptop hinges cover (the plastic thing that covers the hinges between the computer and the screen, the screen lifts on it). 2.) remove the screw hiders ( small circular plugs covering the screws holding the shield over the display unit) 3.) unscrew and unjack display screen. .4) replace screen 5.) screw screen in place, replace lid, screw in place, replace screw plugs, replace hinge covers.
im from malaysia and bought it from malaysia, my laptop is vaio VGN CS36GJ.. im having the same problem as stated up there.. my touch pad of sound, av and capture button is not function.. can u please tell me where should i go or what should i do?
1.
Most likely they sit on the same Connector back-to-back. So hat each RAM module faces each other after installation.
2. The second compartment should be checked according to the manual.
I Understand, but My portuguese is not up to answer in that language, so translate this.
Formatting the hdd wiped out your restore partition, the only way out is to contact Sony and order a restore disc. it will cost money, but you can order a vista restore CD.
So, your "wireless" works at home,
but your "wireless" does *NOT* work anywhere else?
That's not a "hardware" problem -- you just have to open the "Network Connections" folder, and "Find Available Networks", select one, and connect to it.
Find somebody with a laptop at a "hot-spot", buy them a coffee, and ask them to help setup your computer.
The Sony VAIO CS-series Computer model has a known issue with its fan. If the fan is making abnormally loud noise and causing the Computer to shut off then service will be required. You can contact Sony Service Center to get the Computer repaired.
However, if the fan is not making loud noise but the Computer is shutting off automatically then possibly it may be a virus or the failure of the power supply unit. In this case, you may run complete system scan using an updated Antivirus program such as Norton to check for any potential threat. Furthermore, you can perform the C: Drive Restore using the VAIO Recovery Center or complete System recovery using the Recovery disc to ensure that the issue is not related to Software.
Follow the instructions given in the link below to access and use the various features of the VAIO Recovery Center:
Is your xp or vista are Genuine? If it is not you won't be able to update or install. If it is original, Then you may need to update adobe, flash and shockwave updates first. Check your other updates that helps the Microsoft updates installs. If one is not complated, the other is not running. well it is weird but it is so.
Please also check your date and time on your task bar if it is accurate?
