To use Vob files with movie maker, they need to be converted first. This can take a little while, but there is no other way, as windows doesn support dvd playback by default, and whilst codecs will give you playback, movie maker will not accept them, even with the codecs. To convert your vob files to "avi" (the format needed for movie maker) yoou will need converting software. Most of this is very expensive, but thankfully, one of the best is actually free! Just install VLC player. That is a free media player, light and supports most formats, including the VOB files.

Welcome to Fixya. To be able to fix the issue you need to press FN + Numlock key of your keyboard. The numlock key is on that's why number appears instead of letters. Numlock key is next to F12 button.

it may be that you have a broken display signal cable in the unit. these are pretty cheap to replace but do require getting a trained technician like myself to replace it for you, as there is a significant amount of work involved in actually swapping it out. good luck, tim

sadly as with most laptops it is normally cheaper to turn around and buy a whole new machine then try to replace a motherboard, so unless you desperately need that exact machine i suggest getting a new oneremember if it's helpful rate it, cheer's the tech team

if your pc currently had vista then a windows 7 recovery will not help. if you have a windows 7 key or vista you can format and start fresh providing the hard drive isn't what's corrupt or damaged.

Remove main battery and power up, next! sub out the ram one at a time and test, remove the second piece and put the first one back for a valid test.

i think you need to reformat and reinstall the OS on the machine to fix the problem. Some internal data is corrupt and does contribute to the failure of turning off and turning on.

Most of the time this "hyphen blinking" means your hard drive is faulty. fingers crossed this isnt what has happened to your laptop.
try... turning off your laptop completely... turn it on and then immediately start tapping f10 at the top of your keyboard. tap tap tap taptap taptap taptap taptap taptap tap untill.......
you should get a option for "Vaio recovery environment", you should be able to go through this "built in" recovery and not lose any data.

Sounds like you have either a bad lcd screen or a bad lcd inverter.
To check to see if the screen is bad, connect the notebook to an external monitor that you know is working...if it works the you will have to replace the lcd screen.
If it doesn't work then the internal lcd inverter, will need replacement.
Both replacements take a better than average skill to replace, maybe best left to the pros...or sometimes you can check out YouTube and some people show you how to do it.

Best search on the net for this software Ingrid,you get some companies that deal in obsolete software first check the manufacturers site to find the corect "ver" of software.One company if there still up and running is called "Recycled software" in the usa.

This is either a problem with the Inverter or the Lighting Panel (backlight) behind the LCD screen. If you are comfortable in replacing these parts, you can get your instructions here: Click Here
Or you can contact a local laptop repair guy to have these replaced. If your Vaio is still under warranty, it is always better to turn to SONY for repair.

Change your system of windows to Windows 7 32bit. Inyou Pc 64bit and problem with driver.

Please check if your Mic is enabled.
1. Click on start, Control Panel.
2. Click on Hardware & Sound/ Sound to open sound properties window.
3. Click on the Recordings tab and check if the Mic is listed with a green color check mark which defines the mic to be set as the default device.
4. If nothing is listed, right click on any empty area in the window and select show disabled devices and then enable the mic and set it as your default device.
5. Also check the volume for the same.
6. If issue persists download and reinstall the audio drivers from the below link.

7. If issue still persists, perform a system restore to an earlier date. try using external headphones with mic.
8. Contact Sony Service assistance team to initiate service.
