Hi despite being very familiar with the features on my Royal... I am now unable to turn "OFF" the cup heater... I turn it of and on and off in the Menu but makes no difference.. It just stays on heati

Hi Had two of those machines - very nice but now dated - one had done over 35,000 cups!. While you may have turned it off, it may still be 'hot' as it get heated by the boilers below, if left on for a while. Otherwise, its an electronic machine with its own little brain - that may well have "thrown a wobbly" and decided to ignore your menu changes. If otherwise the machine is fine, you can always detach the power to the cup heater if you feel inclined to remove the top of the machine. UNPLUG then remove, water and coffee bean tanks (mind the screws), + two screws in front corners underneath top edge - lift gently off, watch the cappucino frother on left side - also chrome frother tube on front left. From memory two wires to heater - one earth, the other is power. Remove power wire, cover wires terminal with insulation tape thoroughly - reinstall bits in reverse order. Cheers Mike

I pulled the brewing unit

Hi
Read carefully, your answer is towards the bottom.
You have a plugged brew head or bent gate valve. I can help with the brew head but not the gate valve.
Remove the brew unit. Holding the handle, the top left side is the brew head. There is an outlet pipe that is either to the front or back. 2 screws hold it to the top. Remove the 2 screws while holding the manifold ( pipe assembly). Once they are removed, lift the assembly off (be careful, there is an O-ring, spring and at the end, and a black rubber disk or ball that you can loose.
Now remove the brew screen, by holding the screen with your finger and twisting the thumbscrew (remember, thumbscrew), DON'T use the key to install the screen, use your fingers.
Once the screen is out look at where the screen was. There are 2 holes. A big one in the center and a small one to the side.
With the brew unit upside down over the towel, insert a paperclip into the small hole and force anything out the other side. I have gotten worms almost a 1" long from this passage. The paper clip has to go from this side to prevent damage to the seat on the other side.
Clean then reassemble. Brew unit on towel right side up. Drop the ball in first. Then the spring, small end first on the ball.
Now the O-ring over the spring, then place the manifold on top of that with the pipe towards the direction it came off. Insert your screws (I turn them backwards a little with a little downward pressure until they feel like they drop into the threads. They should turn down easily, if not back them up a little more ( we are trying to find the old threads) and tighten. Install screen, and tighten with your fingers. The screen just needs to be flush with the bottom of the brew head. That should do it.
