1989 vt1100c what motor oil would be recommended to reduce engine ticking
Is the ticking from the tappets, valve lifters ? put a hose to your ear and listen to cam covers ! a good quality synthetic oil , correct grade of oil is best !! are lifters adjustable , could need adjusting ! ?? P..
20W-50 is good for muffling sounds in the motor. Depending on the loudness the ticking could be caused by Exhaust gaskets (o-rings) from the head to the head pipe(ticking sound ((at idle))and popping or backfiring on deceleration). When automatic cam chain adjusters are going bad you get a clicking sound, or worse, hydraulic valve lifters (for zero tolerance) going bad. Lifters tend to be a loud clacking sound.
