1989 honda vt1100. the bike
Hey End, check out these components... one of them IS the problem.. make sure the system will pump fluid all the way to the bottom of the hose..THIS WILL REQUIRE TWO PEOPLE..and a can of fluid.. We are going to test the lever's ability to pressurize the hose...(This will help pinpoint the issue!!)..First.. remove the cover of the reservoir..(keep it level)...(DO NOT let the reservoir get low on fluid!!) one of you needs to remove the hose at the connection(#21 - master cyl. pic)..it will be leaking.. place your finger and thumb over the hose(prevent it from leaking).. have your helper fill the reservoir..now have your helper squeeze the lever.. see if you feel pressure on your finger and thumb..if not.. try putting the cover on the reservoir..and now try pumping the lever ...see if you get pressure at your finger and thumb.(it SHOULD blow fluid out!). IF THERE is NO pressure - no matter what you try..-- The problem is in the master cylinder.. (START from the BOTTOM pic first)..The numbered pic's are the main culprits.. the problem is most likely in the master cylinder... -- then the clutch (#14 - #16) components...PlEASE mark as helpful.... thanks

How to set timing on 1989 honda shadow vt 1000
You need a manual. You will have to take off the engine, usually you do the timing only when you change the chains or do a general repair.
Try this;

Test cdi box
2 things are important - petrol (carburetors, pump), is fr. spark wet?
electric - (spark, batery, timing).take out the spark and crank.
If you have custom pipes, you have to sync carburetors, and maby change 2 jets in carburetors.
1989 vt1100c motor oil to reduce engine ticking
20W-50 is good for muffling sounds in the motor. Depending on the loudness the ticking could be caused by Exhaust gaskets (o-rings) from the head to the head pipe(ticking sound ((at idle))and popping or backfiring on deceleration). When automatic cam chain adjusters are going bad you get a clicking sound, or worse, hydraulic valve lifters (for zero tolerance) going bad. Lifters tend to be a loud clacking sound.
Soft front end
Change fork seals and cha he fork oil sounds like dirty fork oil or low on oil but do change oil and seals gx luck if u want a stiff front end can also use thicker oil check OEM oil viscosity and what they recommend for stiffness
