You will have to check the switch which should be situated at the back of the pedal . the switch may be over tight and causing the light to come on .
Check also that the wiring may be swapped as the tail light may be using the brake lightbulb .

My break light swithes on sometimes without me even pressing the breaks. The break light also sometimes stays on even when I have taken my feet off the break. I have tried changed the break light switch...

Did you adjust the brake light switch correctly? To adjust the brake light switch, first press the brake pedal down a few inches, then pull the switch plunger rod out of the switch toward the brake pedal arm, as far as you can without using excessive force. Next, return the brake pedal to the pedal stop position against the pedal stop and pull the brake pedal toward the rear to push the brake light switch actuating plunger rod into the switch housing limited by the travel of the brake pedal arm rear travel stop position. This procedure automatically adjusts the brake light switch correctly.
If the brake lights still don't turn off with the brake pedal released, check the brake pedal arm for sticking or binding that is preventing the brake pedal arm from returning fully to the pedal stop when the brake is released.

2007 Cadillac SRX rear tail light stays illuminated after taking foot off brake, also comes on and off, flicker, without brakes depressed.

your brake switch needs adjustment, located down under dash on brake bracket, when the brake is depressed it lets the switch out, and when the brake is not depressed the switch is in. adjust the switch by screwing it closer to the pedal so it gets depressed more, usually 2 turns will do it

I have a 2007 Heritage Softtail. Brake light does not work. I checked the fuses and replaced the taillight. Still does not work. What next?

You have two brake light switches on your bike, a front brake light switch in the right handlebar switch housing and a rear brake light switch under the bike. To check for operation of either or both of the switches, remove the brake light lense and bulb. Turn the ignition switch on and have someone hold the front brake and depress the rear brake pedal at the same time while you check the contacts in the socket for power to each contact. One contact will be the brake light contact, the other is the tail light contact. If you have power to both, you bulb or the tail light ground is bad.

If you only have power to one contact, have the person helping you release both brakes. The contact for the tail light should remain hot as long as the ignition switch is on.

To find the rear brake light switch, find the metal brake line coming out of the rear brake master cylinder and going towards the rear of the bike. Follow this line until you come to a tee fitting with the rear brake light pressure switch screwed into it. Simply screw the switch out and replace it with a new one.

The front switch is more difficult as you have to disassemble the right handlebar switch housing, remove the throttle sleeve and open the housing up. Remove the screw holding the old switch and desolder the wires from the switch. Install the new switch and resolder the wires. Reassemble the throttle assembly and the switch housing taking care not to pinch any wires and making sure the throttle works smoothly.

Good Luck

When headlight are on and hit the beake pedal only the 3rd brake light comes on the rest are stuck . When i release brake pedal it seems like i am driving with my brake light on . but my headlight off...

It may sound silly, but check your brake light bulbs to see if they have been installed incorrectly. Brake light bulbs have two filaments, one for tail light, and a brighter one for brake lights. On some cars if the bulb is installed wrong, the brighter filament will stay on for tail lights. The only other thing I can think of is the wrong bulbs have been installed.

Tail lghts/brake lights

Isn't that mysterious? It took me a few weeks to figure it out. Look carefully under the break pedal. There is this device called a "break light switch". I hope that helps.

Brake lights

The taillight should be on at all times. The brakelight should come on when the front or rear brakes are applied. Start by disconnecting the front brake light switch then the rear to see which switch is broken. Also check the bulbs. I have seen them short out internally. The filament inside the bulb break and contacts the other circuit.
