I have a Simplicity S24 canister vacuum. It's about 3 yrs. old. In the past year I have had it in the shop 4 times because when using the rug piece, the piece turns on & off, on & off. The actual vacuum doesn't... just the rug piece. I recently spent $65 on a new part, after spending countless dollars the other 3 times it was in the shop for this problem. I'm ready to buy another name vacuum altogether as I feel this vacuum is not worth the money that was spent on it. I'm very frustrated.

Repair shop has not fixed the problem? complain until they fix it properly. This is a pressure fault / jamming issue or slipping drive. Repair shop should have fixed it 1st time.

The pedal has probably worn on the end where it latches into the notches on the body of the vacuum. This is very common with this Model after after many hours of use. Most likely your model is between 5 and 20 years old but may still have many years left. Go to your Simplicity dealer and buy a new pedal if it's worn.
If you have dogs that shed, canister vacuums will always need cleaning out.. try to empty it before it's total full more often, this should prevent it from backing up so much.

In most cases, the issue you've described will be caused by something jamming the brush bar. It can usually be resolved by clearing the brush bar of any debris, threads or hair, and checking the Motorhead for any obstructions, as shown in the video below.

They make the worst machines, the rollers are cheap and they make it so you cant take them apart to clean them. You don't want a dyson either, they aren't any better for pets. With all that hardwood floors you should get a good canister vacuum, sebo and miele are the best.
There is a thermal fuse on the motor field that sometimes fails. Sometimes the fuse does what it is supposed to do - prevents motor from overheating. Causes: a) Improperly worn motor brushes b) bad motor bearings (that usually leads to uneven motor brush wear) c) very dirty cooling air filter
To access filter and the motor - use small flat screwdriver to remove clear side panels. You will see 4 or 6 Phillips screws. Remove screws - cap will come off.
It normally won't over heat unless the bag is too full, the filters are clogged, or you have have a clog in the hose or down by the brush roll, the inlet may be clogged. Some will restart after a while, some others have a reset to push. If it won't power on, then you have a problem and it will have to serviced.
