Re: Where is the Orifice Tube on a 1998 Ford Escort, and...
You must replace the line going into the fire wall. this is a fixed orfice system. small line is were you will see an compression crimp. this is your orfice.

The orifice tube is inside the line going to the evaporator you have to disconnect the lines to get to it you should change the accumulator tank because that's a very likely leak spot a/c systems never need freon unless there's a leak in the system and that tank is almost always responsible buy a can with dye in it to get the system charged enough to get the compressor to cycle the leak will show up wherever it is then repair and have the system evacuated with a vacuum pump do not skip this step you will have a bad result of blowing seals in the compressor or the orings on the lines plus you just spent $$to fix it do it right one time ok good luck stephen
The tube is at the inlet to the evaporator core at the engine bulkhead. Disconnect the smaller of the 2 AC lines to locate it. In the picture below the line that you need to disconnect is the lower one in the picture of the AC compressor hose assembly.
Remove condenser-to-evaporator refrigerant line. Separate line to expose fixed orifice tube. Pour small amount of clean refrigerant oil into cavity to aid removal. Engage Fixed Orifice Tube Remover/Replacer), hold tool body and turn "T" handle to draw out fixed orifice tube. To install, reverse removal procedure. Use new "O" rings coated with clean refrigerant oil.
remove oil pan unbolt pickup tube and screen from engine block an oil pump if your to replace and i would.-. prime oil pump with oil by putting in screen and turning shaft till oil comes out block side and bolt back up and install oil pan with new gasket and fill with oil and start up with idle and watch oil pressure till it comes up to normal, i would change oil filter also before starting there probly is a gasket between oil pump and block
The dip stick tube is pressed into the engine block. Put a bolt into the top of the tube so that the body of the bolt goes into the tube and the bolt head rests on the tube (so it does not fall down the tube). Use a wrench (such as a Vise grip) to hold onto the tube at the bolt and gently work it back and forth, being sure not to deform the tube. Remove the tube and old dip stick. Replace the tube by forcing it back into the eng. block. Replace the dip stick - done :)! Some dip stick tubes have a gasket at the engine - others just **** up to a shoulder that is built into the tube. Let me know if this works. Thanks.
The engine oil dipstick is located on the driver's side of the engine. Remove it and wipe the oil off the dipstick and then thread it back into the tube. Remove the dipstick and read the level. It should be between the MAX and MIN lines. Add oil if necessary. The coolant level is checked by visually inspecting the level in the reservoir while the engine is cold. It should be around the "Full Cold" line. Take a look at the coolant because oil mixed in with the antifreeze could signify a leaking head gasket. The brake master cylinder will be located on the driver's side of the firewall behind the strut tower. Pull the lid off and check the fluid level inside. To check the automatic transmission fluid level, first allow the engine to warm up to normal operating temperature, then check the fluid level on the dipstick.------------
Thanks.
