Hi I have an 1988 Avanti convert. was just wondering do you need any other parts

  • Anonymous Nov 22, 2008

hope your metal rail with the rubber piece is in good shape, this piece itself is a very hard to find item. The last one I saw went for 350.00 with no glass. If it is not I might know a guy who might still have one. Did you try getting the glass number from the passenger side and calling around PPG glass dealers or do a google search for PPG glass

I would say your best bet is through the Owners Club.

I found the following Avanti web site that has an owners forum where you could try asking if they know where to get supplies,

http://www.aoai.org/forums/index.php

Also you could try some of the dealers on this site
http://www.theavanti.com/websites.htm

Also I don't know if any other Stedebaker glass would fit an Avanti but here is a web site for Studebaker glass.

https://www.studebakerparts.com/studebakerparts/store/s/agora.cgi?page=glass.html

I checked e-Bay as I am sure you did and there is nothing there.
Hope something comes up - good luck

You may have already found this site:

http://theavanti.com/parts.htm

But if not, it seems a good place to start.

I empathize with your plight; I have a Bertone '87 X1/9, my favorite car of all time but have been fortunate in finding a low-mileage parts car in case I need any.
I grew up in original Avanti-land; South Bend, IN.

1987 AVANTI CONVertible, HOOD LATCH CABLE BROKEN. LATCH SECURE ANY FEASABLE ACCESS TO LATCHES WITHOUT RUINING HOOD

If the cable is broken on the inside catch, you can remove the handle and pull with locking grips. If broken at the hood end you normally go in through the grille, but you have a bit of a disadvantage there. The only possible way is to get it up on a ramp and see if it can be pulled from underneath.

How do i remove a rear window

hard top or convertible.?
I guess at hard.
Not side rear. or doors., but rear rear. as in rear view.

rear window. glass out? why not say why so can see JOB ? at hand.
eg: my rear view glass is broken.?

is covered in the FSM, (like all cars made)
the factory service manual. or alldata.com (clone) log in read.

ok ill past the FSM words here.
Stationary Windows Stationary glass is removed and installed using the same procedure as the windshield. Refer to Windshield Glass Removal and Installation. (first hit ,btw)

ever seen a front windshield changed out, sure.
same
best solution is......
Call the same company to come out and point to rear .?

they sell a special tool to get out a window.
it has 2 , "T" handles and rod saw. to cut out the glue/caulk.
the glue comes out more easy on a hot day.
its not really glass, it's an occupant containing device, today.
the best caulk is.

how is my guess.... on car, and glass and reasons.

My 2002 Toyota camry drivers side window is off track when it's rolled up. Water leaks in and when your driving there is wind noise

You may have to review notes on how to remove the drivers side panel and replace one of the broken screws that hold the glass in place on the bottom rail. I believe the cause my be that and if not it may be a sticky guide rail. Try rubbing some furniture polish on the edge of the glass that sticks (usually to opposite side of the one that does not match the door). This may help to get the glass sliding smoothly again.

My driver side window won't come up... i pressed it all the way down and could not make it to come back up... the rest of the windows are working what should be the problem?

well the problem is most likely the track came outta place or the glass came of the track.. the hopefully not problems are a broken regulator (thing that lifts the glass up and down) or a broken switch (thing u press to make glass go up and down).'

now i will try my best to to explain how to diagnose and fix it,, seeing as I'm from the caribbean parts here sometimes carry (local names) not the names your used to so bear with me..

  • open door ( i know it was obvious sorry!!)
  • remove door upholstery (some screws are hidden in the handle, door lever, and behind plugs look for it)
  • pry the upholstery loose from the clips to get it off
  • now look at the glass ,, you will notice 2 railings on eighter ends ,, is the glass in the middle or in the tracks of the railings ?? if not then fit it in place and your set, you can adjust it by loosening the 3 bolts on the middle of the glass)
  • there is an arm there,, a motor with a cable running through and up some metal pieces,, is the cable broken ? if so replace the entire regulator unit, remove it by loosening the bolts holding it in place , then the 3 bolts holding the glass to it,, lift the glass out the door then pull the regulator out)
  • if all looks good then simply connect your switch back, turn ignition on,, press the up on the switch and gently push the glass up,, chances are something got in the rail and stuck the glass..
well thats the fix.. BTW if you press the switch and you dont here the motor turn on ,, well you need to replace the regulator..

let me know what happens..

2000 corvette convertible top rear window came

This is a common problem with many cars. It is delamination. If the window is loose in spots, it can often be repaired with urethane adhesive like glass shops use for windshields. If the glass is more than 30% delaminated, chances of fixing it are slim. With the glass all the way out, you need a new top. Karl at topgunwon.com

REPLACIND DRIVER SIDE WINDOW REGULATOR

Pull out window crank and door handle, remove panel, remove plastic Nylon that's between metal and panel, crank the window down enough to see the arm and the part that connects with glass. Make sure the metal part inside the door that comes from an arm and attaches to glass is clean, from broken glass and the gap that attaches to window is clean, bend the new glass to make it fit inside the opening slide down the new glass from the top using opening guides, grave it from both sides standing in between and make land on top center of the part that graves the glass, put automotive glass silicone on center of that part, just at where graves the glass, let dry, put the plastic back the door panel the window crank with the "U" shaped lock washer and the door handle, I hope I was clear
