Sometimes when starting my 05 Malibu Maxx(3.5L) it starts to sputter right away. If I press the gas it will usually start, otherwise it will stall. Any idea what would cause this.

I think RSE stands for Rear Seat Entertainment. and prob has nothing to do with the hard start issue...

He took it to get the code and it is throwing a gas cap code. ... The gas cap code won'tprevent it from starting. .... the fuel injection computer will respond to while in startmode is if you press the pedal to the floor & hold it there. 2010 cranks but won't start

1st move is to ck the fuel PSI & emissions. Possible cooling system cause.Scan computer & check sensor readings & the emissions readings are the first moves. Check spark plugs, ignition spark etc. Good luck

I don't know where you are but if the temperature was below freezing and you have some water in the fuel line or filter you probably can't get fuel.

Might be bad gas have you filled its somewhere different

We had a similar situation. It took the dealer a few days to figure out it was an issue with the wiring harness(es) in the center console - around or behind the transmission shifter.

Wiggle the ignition key and find out if the gas Gage and the tachometer quits if it does its the ignition switch

Put a voltmeter on the battery whilst cranking. Sometimes a marginal battery will have a big voltage drop that will cause the engine to crank but not start with the remote starter but it will start with the key. One attempt with the remote puts unburnt fuel in the engine that throws off the next attempt to start with the key.
