My 2004 s10 is doing the same thing. How did u fix.yours
I have the same problem on my gmc! You should have a check engine light on as well. Take it and get someone to pull the codes. This should tell you what the problem is. I think it's a shift solenoid for 3&4 but it would be best to have the codes pulled before you buy any parts. I need to get the code pulled on mine, if I figure it out, i'll update you.
Thanks - my check engine light isn't on. I've heard that AutoZones have Tester that you can use or rent to get the codes. I'm hoping it's just Transmission Control Unit. Will let you know as well.
Another update. It's not that transmission won't shift to 3rd or 4th. It's that when it attempts to go to 3rd (or 4th) it doesn't engage. Will run in 1st or 2nd all day long
Yeah mine does the same thing. When it tries to go into 3rd, it just throws it outta gear and so the rpms go up.
I had just got a 1996 S-10 for an older man that had no vehicle,I had to make the used car lot owner a deal,I said I would fix the problem it had that kept the check engine light on,it has to pass the smog inspection before they can sell it,so I checked the fault codes and it was a P1886,this was the fault code(shift/timing solenoid)but the truck runs real good, the tranny even feels like it's shifting fine, but we only drove it a couple miles, the only thing that I thought ,was it did shift a little firm from first to second gear,I cleared the codes and about a mile the light came back on,but none of the parts store's show a shift/timing soleniod, they show 1-2,3-4,3-2 and the solenoid that locks the converter
