My 2000 ford contour just yesterday started getting sluggish, eas having problems getting past 50 miles per hour.like when you pull something with your truck up hill.. then today we drove it to town this morning at around 50 miles per hour. stopped the car and left it sitting for a few hours. started back up later went again stopped somewhere then it wouldn't stay on trying to get dsown the road, kept dying... turns on thogh?

How many miles are on the car. It sounds like it is going into limp home mode in the computer. If that is the problem you may have a catalytic converter that is plugged or nearly plugged. If the cat gets plugged if won't allow fuel to be pulled into the engine and causes it to stall. Have you ran a scanner on the car to check for trouble codes.

Have the engine hooked up to a diagnostic meter to see exactly where the problem is. No sense in replacing a lot of parts when only one or two may be necessary.

sounds like you have a squealing wheel bearing.

That is a common issue with CNG..sorry...

Thats normal for it to come on when it stalls.You may have a intermitent fault.I would have it scaned to see if it is holding any codes.I have seen this type of problem with other ford products and thay don't always set a code.that makes it a little tougher to find.Mass air flow sensor may be bad or dirty,thay have spray cleaner at your local auto parts store to clean them with.Fuel pressure may be low too.Autozone rents fuel pressure testers,if you don't feel comfortable doing this have your local mechanic do it for you.I forgot autozone will scan your car for free.Hope this helps.any more questions just ask and i'll try to help.Thank You for using fixya......iluv2fish........Ray.......

Check wheel balance,
check steering linkages for loosness - such as tie rod ends, steering rack linkages etc,
check driveline for worn/loose joints and bearings.

check the sparkplug wires on the firewall side for arching-body seam there that will cut them

Absolutely the problem. Timing belts should be changed every 60,000 miles or 6 years.

check the transmission fluid level first and also when was last time you had a tranny service new fluid and filter because the screen could be plugged and not allowing the fluid to get to the torque converter also have the catalytic converter checked out

Does you stratus idle rouhgfuly, have you checked your EGR valve?
