The fuel pump is inside the gas tank, so the tank has to be drained and removed. Someone would need to check fuel pressure at the injectors with a gauge, and if it is low, check to see if the pump is getting power from the pump relay.
if you have someone try to start the car while you hit the gas tank in the centre of the fuel tank and it starts then the fuel pump is no good.note this doesn`t always work due to how bad the pump is seized.if you look for the fuel pump feed wire under the hood,its a green wire with a black plastic connector and with some one again trying to start the car and with a test light connected to the connector it should light up.if it does then the pump is no good.another way is to have someone listen at the fuel tank and feed power to this same wire if the pump is working then they should hear the pump run,they may have to listen at the filler neck with the gas cap off to see if they can hear it run.
if it runs when spraying starting fluid in it, then the most likely problem is no fuel getting to engine. check or replace fuel filter, check the fuel pump fuse and relay it may have blown. if not that see if fuel pump is working. to check pump--- have someone turn car to on, while you feel for vibration at fuel tank under car. a fuel pump only comes on for a few seconds to get the fuel to engine. but when started it runs continuously. have a good day !!
if no power is going to fuel pump.it is fuse or relay or open wire to fuel pump.also pcm.now if power going to fuel pump.and it wont run.replace fuel filter.
remove the fuel line from the carb, put it into a bottle, crank the engine, If the bottle has fuel in it the fuel pump is working properly, if not, check the filter, and the fuel lines to the tank!!!

IT PUMPS DIESEL FUEL IT INTO INJECTION PUMP TO BE PRESSURIZED TIMED AND INJECT.SEE IF LOW PRESSURE PUMP DONT WORK THE WHOLE ENGINE WONT RUN.THE INJECTION PUMP NEED FUEL FROM LOW PRESSURE ELECTRIC PUMP TO RUN ENGINE.
timing belt! seems to be the most common thing when someone tell you to replace the fuel pump and still wont start. timing belts are about 18-23 dollars
