I would suspect the water pump, power steering noises are usually grinding sounds. Also if the belts shredded check behind ALL the pulleys for the reinforcing strands from the belts. Basing this on general car problems , not any actual Chevy.

Should be a pretty simple project.The tank is held up with two straps, and you would have the wiring plug for the gauge sending unit and the rubber fuel lines to disconnect.If the filler pipe is on the side you would have a hose to remove or the screws that hold the pipe in the panel.

local autozone will print it out to you at no cost or simply tell it to you over the phone. i use them alot for this.

ytou have the right key?transmition are on park? your truck is down hill with front wheel presure .how long the truck is out of service.you maybe need lubricate the swich. use a ligth oil spry can,or dip the key in oil .and insert on the swich a few times
