I have a 2004 Ford Freestar with 150,000 miles. This morning driving to work the Transaxle light came on. What could be the problem be and can I drive it home (approximate 80 miles)? What would be the cost to repair? Also, there was no indication of a problem, no noises, jerking etc. before the light came on.

Hi, This could be a sign of lack of oil in the axle, if you could just check that out first & refill the axle that may fix problem. Should that not solve problem I think if you drive it home carefully it should hold out enough to get you home. Please leave me feed back: Malcolm Campbell, Thanks.

SOURCE: 2004 Ford Freestar cruise control not working

Try pulling up the brake pedal with your foot,Sometimes your brake doesnt come back all the way,and the brake switch keeps the cruise from working. Also, check the fuse.If those answers dont help,It could be the swith itself is bad. Those can be bought at a parts store.

SOURCE: 2004 Ford Freestar SEL sputtering, check engine light flickering.

Engine lamp will come on if idle is too low / fuel mixture is too lean or too rich.
A faulty spark plug will cause this also.

Transaxle warning light came on while driving on highway. Pulled off the highway. Light went off. Pulled back onto highway. Light staying off for now

Watch out! You're lucky the violent lunging didn't happen prior to the light, as well as losing all power when the engine cuts outs. After this happened to me, the light was steadily flashing and the van would not go into gear. Good luck, I'm still waiting to see if a recall is gonna happen. Very dangerous.
