Assuming you replace it with the same transmission it should be fine. If you've changed your tires to a larger or smaller size it can also effect your speedometer. If this is the case it can usually be corrected by replacing the speedometer cable with one for that particular combination. If your transmission isn't shifting right you should check the fluid level. Also check for any transmission leaks because those can effect the shifting as well.

Tire size usually is the cause. go back to recommended tire size, change the speedometer drive gear in the transmission, or it may be new enough for a power programmer to adjust the engine computer for the bigger tires and get that speedometer back reading right.

My speedodemeter isn't working right why

Could be the speedometer in the dash or the speed sensor in the transmission. That circuit would need to be tested.

1995 TOYOTA 4 RUNNER HAS A DELAYED HARD SHIFT BUT WHEN YOU DRIVE IT AND IT WARMS UP IT SHIFTS FINE WHAT IS WRONG

Service your transmission. Change the fluid and filter every 24,000 miles. The owners manual doesn't call for it, but they want to sell you another car at 100,000 miles. I have had to replace a few transmissions following the manufacturer's instructions before I decided to ignore that part.

1998 Montero Sport 4x4 V6 transmission with 205,000 miles doesn't shift. Just changed the tranny filter and fluid and it still doesn't shift.

I have never seen a trans with 205,000 miles on it,
& I once owned a trans repair shop

So pull it out & have it rebuilt

Fluid is changed to replace it's ability to
remove heat, no other reason

it may be a bad tps ( throttle position sensor ). it causes transmission shift issues, bucking, jerking, idle surging, engine cut off, surge while crusing down highway. if this does not solve problem, it may be a sticking valve body in transmission. have a good day !! for an automatic tranny.

Trany want shift takes off in high speedodemeter dont work what do i do want shift up or down

Hard to understand your English, but sounds like you have a 'speed sensor' issue. They are used by the transmission and speedometer to determine when to shift and display the speed.

A dealer/mechanic can diagnose what sensor needs replaced.

I had the same problem with my 1999 Pontiac montana. Unfortunately it is a transmission shop problem. There is a shift solonoid that commonly goes out on these montana's and you have to remove the transmission from the vehicle, remove the left side of the transmission and change the solonoid and recalibrate it. This fixed my montana from the same problem. IF you do not change this solonoid, it will cause tremendous wear on the transmission and it may cost you a new transmission which are relatively hard to find and expensive. I hope this helps.
