Replaced master cylinder and slave cylinder and there is no resistance in clutch when i tried to bleed it according to the manual, (the clutch has already been replaced)

This is happening more and more = pump the padel 100 times then bleed then maybe nesassry to pump 100 more ....and that should fixya(and yes i mean to just sit and pump)

What's wrong with my clutch if my 1998 escort won't go into gear. There is small resistance in my clutch pedal

Jamie, are you losing any fluid from the clutch master cylinder? By small resistance I presume you mean the pedal feels soft?

If you're losing fluid from the master cylinder you have an obvious leak somewhere and air is getting into the system.

Most leaks occur from the clutch SLAVE cylinder as it does all the work .. If there's no leak from the clutch slave cylinder, suspect the seals inside. It's like a bicycle pump ..the seal inside wears and it won't pump..

You may be able to get an overhaul kit. I'm in the UK .. but here's an Ebay link for a slave cylinder overhaul kit just to show you what it looks like:

It's easier and quicker to fit a new slave cylinder than it is to strip down and replace seals with a kit. Be aware, after overhauling or replacing a slave cylinder you have to bleed it - remove the air.

The easiest way of doing this is to make sure the reservoir is fill of fluid, crawl underneath the car with a spanner/wrench, place a rag over the bleed point and get somebody to pump the pedal a couple of times while you undo then tighten the bleed nut.

If it's not the slave cylinder at fault- then it's the master cylinder. Master cylinders also have a 'piston' and rubber seals which wear/perish.
However, it's more than likely that it's the slave cylinder at fault

Clutch, slave , master cylinder and tranny new. bleeding system with no effect. no resistence at all.

Did you bench bleed the master cylinder? If you didn't, crack the line to the slave open at the master, work the clutch pedal until fluid comes out the line you cracked open. Now close and tighten the line, and it should bleed normally down at the slave cylinder.

Check on the upper part of the pedel to see if the clip that connects the pedel to the clutch master cylinder has poped off If the clutch pedel is on the floor this is a likely sulition and relitively easy repair you just reattach the clip

Almost every time a clutch is replaced in a GM with hydraulic release system that system is replaced as well. You can try, and try, and try again to bleed it, but you will eventually replace the clutch slave and master cylinders. Once the slave is allowed to fully extend, it is then virtually impossible to make it function correctly again.

Clutch pedal goes to floor

Its sounds like a bad clutch cylinder or bad slave cylinder or fluid leaking. First check brake fluid level in clutch master , and check for a leak in clutch system. If there are NO leaks, then you either have a bad clutch cylinder or a slave cylinder. Bleed clutch at bleeder screw on slave cylinder and make sure there is pressure from master cylinder. If there is pressure then slave cylinder may be bad replace slave and bleed and that should take care of you problem. If master is bad then replace bleed system ad you should be good. Clutch has no resistance, stays near floor after applying pressur

You could refill but, i would replace the clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder as well. these two parts are failing.

Bleeding clutch slave cylinder

i think youre doing the right thing. they are very stubborn to bleed because the hyd. line goes up high across back of engine before droppiing back down to slave cyl., trapping air. could try to gravity bleed by opening bleeder at slave, cap off of master cyl, full with fluid then it may start to come out after a bit. then try your process again. or can try to bleed at connections further up the line, working your way back to bleeder. hope this helps. be patient.
