Trunk latch pull down

My 1997 Lincoln Towncar "pull down" on the trunk latch just stopped working. The key pad on the door still opens the trunk as does the key and the trunk release button on the driver's side door. I checked the fuse and it was fine. Q: what else might be wrong and is it expensive to repair? What parts might need to be replaced? thanks. T. Smith

I have a 97 towncar with trunk not closing properly. The automatic pull down action doesn't work right away so that there is a 3-4 inch gap when trunk is in closed position. It eventually does close, but it takes about a day or 2 later and does it automatically with no physical assistance.

You could try setting release to work manually. I have had the same problem. Take tne motor off set the catch clip at the right height. This should work with no cost.

You need to replace the motor assembly. get the part of the internet, maybe rock auto. it's an easy repair just a couple of screws and a plug connector.

It's almost always the limit switch that controls how far down it can go, and reverses it when the trunk opens. The motor itself rarely fails. Clean all the connections and squirt some WD 40 inside the switch, and work it back and forth a few times. I don't know if you can by the switch separately, I wish I could!

Trunk wont unlatch with keyless entry remote or trunk release button on door on 1997 lincoln continental

It sure sounds like a fuse. You can check for proper voltage at the hot wire of the actuator while you try to pop it. I think you are overlooking the fuse. Make sure the actuator has a good ground as well.

Lincoln town car trunk motor broken

You will have to go to a dealer & purchase a new
electrical trunk latch.

There is no work around, as you would like.

You could price a new one & one from a salvage yard

I have a 1996 lincoln towncar and the trunk isn't closing all the way. from what i have read it is probably the pull down motor???? could you tell me where that is located and what to do to test it to see...

The pull down motor is easy to change open your trunk and look where it latches thats your pull down motor it is probably 3 10 milimeter bolts you will probably have to take out the plastics that cover it up and push back or remove the trunk liner material by it. change your motor and you will have to adjust the motor by lightly snugging the bolts and closing the trunk till it is in the right position then tighten bolts and reinstale liner

1996 lincoln continental door latch does not lock/unlock door from inside or outide...door stays open basically...door latch has no response, unlock/lock switch works

I have the same problem.(Door will not stay closed) The door latch itself seems worn to the point where the linkage from both the actuator or door handle causes the latch to get stuck. I can free it with a screw driver applied where linkage connects to the latch, but it will stick again. Dealer wants over 300 with actuator. I am looking in junk yard for part. Remove door panel, somehow disconnect linkage from latch. It makes more sense to remove 3 hex or star screws 1st (27mm) so latch will be more accessible. My problem is the door latch, not anything else. Good luck

1995 lincoln town car trunk will not automatically shut

There is a black flat switch handle immediately to the right side of the latch. Press that switch handle and the latch will make a noise and rise slightly. Then when you shut the deck, the switch activates and recesses, pulling the deck lid down to the fully closed position.

Hope this helps
