Jeep has the fuel injected 4.0 inline 6, manual transmission. To start it you need to have the gas pedal all the way to the floor. what might I look at to solve this?
Found this in a Yahoo post:
Check to see if you are losing prime pressure from fuel pump.
ASD relay kicks for a few seconds when ignition is turned on and fuel
pump primes up pressure to injectors. If you have a leak down from the
pump this few seconds is not enough to get enough pressure to build.
When engine is turning over, ASD relay latches on and fuel pump runs
therefor building enough pressure to injectors on the second start. The
fuel rail has a port to hook up fuel pressure tester to test this
issue. If this is the issue, check valve in pump is failing.
GOOD LUCK and happy motoring
Remove and clean the idle air control motor and channel and check for a leaking / defected fuel pressure.... disconnect the negative battery cable for 1 minute and enjoy driving again...
I could be a problem with the idle air control valve. is it always hard to start or only when hot or only when cold?
Hi,
Based on your descriptions/posting, foremost suspect would be the air/fuel mixture. Possible fault could be in the:

Good luck and kind regards.
Thank you for using FixYa.
The gas pedal allows air to the engine, check to make sure that the air intake isn't clogged at all and that the filter is still clean. I would replace the filter unless you recently did so. How does it idle?
It is a dirty injector problem, go to a garage and have injection checked.
You have to check injector first, if you replaced the sensor, and injectors are ok, then it can be a problem with the ECU.
If the problem is the computer you need to take the car to a mechanic to test it.

I would like to get other opinions on this problem. I have been told by others that the injectors are fine along with the fuel pressure being at the correct level.
The airway is clear and once the engine is warmed up, it idles just fine.
when it starts/run, how is the idling; IDLES JUST FINE
does the exhaust smell a bit different (too rich); NO STRANGE SMELLS
when the engine has warmed up, same problem or easier to start; SAME PROBLEM
any recent work/repair done on the engine; NO
any new component or aftermarket device installed; NO
It is hard to start when the engine is either hot or cold
I know that the throttle positioning sensor would do that so that was one of the first things I replaced
Hmmmm. I have replaced the crankshaft sensor, but I did not know of a cam sensor.
Is there any way to see all of the suggestions that have been offered instead of the most recent one? Thanks for all of your help
