My brake will not shut off unless I take the fuse out. Sometimes when I put the fuse back in when the lights are not on but as soon as I push on the brake the lights stay on.

Hi, it sounds like your brake pedal return spring may not be working right. Can you get the lights to go off by pulling up on the brake pedal? If yes, check the return spring on the pedal and repair or replace the spring as necessary to get it to pull the switch closed. If this DOESN'T work, replace the switch. Please let me know if you have questions and thanks for using FixYa.

Replace your brake light switch. There are two different types but I believe you have the one that is under the dash. the arm of the brake pedal pushes against a button type switch. This switch has a bit of adjustment that can be made by moving it closer or farther away from the brake arm.

the other type of switch is hydraulic in nature and screws into the master brake cylinder, but again I don't think this is what you have.

2008 Saturn Vue Stuck In Park. The car starts fine however when you try to shift out of park the shifter is locked up and won't budge. You have to restart the car multiple times to get the shifter...

these have a safety system so the shifter won`t go into any gear unless the brake is pushed(indicating someone sitting in the drivers seat),if the brake lights aren`t working this indicates that the fuse that operates the shift lock solenoid and brake lights is not working and needs replacing.check the fuses and replace the fuse and things will probably return to normal.

1994 Pontiac Grand Am Its sat about 2 months now. I went out to start it. It was dead. So I jumped it. Well I got it started and the check engine light and abs light was on. Well I put my foot underneath...

If the battery is bad and not holding a charge, every time you push on the brake's. The break lights come on and puts a load on the electrical system and if the voltage drops below 10.5 volts, the ECM will shut down fuel injector and ignition system. The other thing to is that the fuel pressure may be dropping due to the electric fuel pump not getting enough volts every time you put on the brakes. You cold always try keeping the jumper cables connected to make sure it's the voltage drop that is causing the engine to stall. Keep me posted, be glad to help you get your car running 1005 again soon.

I have a 98 Ford Taurus -- turn signals work, but no brake lights when brake pedal is pushed? Does this sound like a fuse, switch or bulb problem?

i had the same problem in my ranger, check fuses, wires, possibly one bulb is bad, i had to rewire mine because of a burnt wire.

1997 Buick Lesabre parking lights fuse keeps popping. I put a new fuse in and soon (sometimes seconds, sometimes a day), the fuse blows. Brake lights, head lights, reverse lights are OK. Is it most likely...

If the bulb is of too much wattage maybe but is more likely the wiring is grounding to the frame at some point. You are of course, using the proper fuse....

The cruise control shuts off sometimes during use

Not sure, but your brake pedal might not be pushing the brake light switch back in. Next time it happens, stop somewhere safe, put the car in park and check the brake lights on the rear of the vehicle with nobody's foot on the brake pedal. If they're still on, try pulling the brake pedal up with your foot and check to see if the lights go off. If they are on then go off, you can usually adjust the brake switch closer to the pedal to put more pressure on it to get the lights to go off. If not, you might have to get a new switch. If that's not it, try wiggling the wires with it in park then take off again and see if it'll return to cruise control.
