SOURCE: Identifying color coded wires for trailer hookup

get a cheap 12 volt test ($6 any parts store) light and have someone operate the different lights while u proble the wires, when the test light illuminates you tag that wire for what circuit was activated, brake, running, turn etc.

SOURCE: need wiring color code for a 2000 saturn SL2 for hooking up a trailer light four pin connector

The trailer wires are left turn, right turn, running lights(the smaller elements on both tail-lights and any side lights) and ground. Energise the corresponding lights and connect the wires accordingly. Find a good ground. A piercing test probe will find the correct wire for you if you can't track it to the bulb.

SOURCE: tail light wiring connectors and wiring diagram

A test light checking each connector would be faster and easier to do. Maybe somebody may have a illustration for you but by far a simple test light is all you need with a helper turning on the different lights as you check them out and writing all your findings down

Wire trailer brake controler on ford pickup

There usually is an open harness plug under the dash. When you buy a brake controller, the instructions should come with it. The better units will have a pigtail which will plug right into the other half of the open harness plug.

If the kit you have has the pigtail connector, but loose wires needing to be connected, see if the color of the wires match those on the open connector. Then match the color of each wire.

Some years of trucks will have a heavy duty flasher to install in the Powerbox to accommodate the extra trailer lights.

the dealer has a kit.

How to wire a trailer package on a 2004 silverado 1500

These diagrams should be useful in assisting you to wire the trailer connectors properly. A five way connector is like a four way with an extra blue wire for the electric brakes. A test light should be used to be certain that the wires are connected to the trailer connectors properly before you actually connect the trailer connectors together.

Trailer wiring problem. Tow vehicle is a 2008 Grand Caravan with 4 wire plug. Double checked, plug function works fine. When trailer is plugged to tow vehicle with tow vehicle lights OFF the trailer...

Most likely the brown wire from the trailer connector is connected to a constant battery voltage source, and it should be connected to the vehicle running light circuit, however someone might have wired the trailer connector up that way on purpose so that the trailer does not draw power from the vehicle running lights and possibly damage the vehicle running light circuit. (Dodge/Chrysler vehicles do have delicate lighting systems) Here are some images to help assist you, and the 4 way connector is the same as the 5 way connector just without the blue wire for the trailer brakes.

How do i install a wiring harness for a trailer on a 2002 ford focus wagon?

  • Loosen and pull back the carpeting in the back of the trunk behind the taillights.
  • Step 2 Remove the plastic wingnuts that secure the taillight to the vehicle's body.
  • Step 3 Separate the taillights from the vehicle's body, but do not disconnect the wiring.
    Installing the Connector
  • Step 1 Examine the wiring harness on each taillight. There will be a plastic connector on each side that must be separated to insert the wiring harness connector.
  • Step 2 Thread the trailer wiring connectors through holes in the body behind each taillight. Follow the instructions provided with the connector to determine which connector belongs in which side of the vehicle.
  • Step 3 Insert the wiring connectors into the vehicle's wiring harness.
    Reinstalling the Taillights
  • Step 1 Push the taillights into position against the body and reinstall the plastic wingnuts that secure them. Be careful not to crush the wiring.
  • Step 2 Route the trailer wiring underneath the carpeting in the trunk, so that the trailer connector can extend out between the trunk lid and bumper when in use, and be tucked into the trunk when not in use.
  • Step 3 Reposition the trunk carpet over the taillight housing.

I do not have power on the aux. terminal in the trailer plug on a 2008 dodge ram. Any ideas?

You have got 7 pin trailer connector that was included in the optional trailer tow package. This trailer tow package also includes an electric trailer brake wiring provision that terminates at a connector located on top of the large body harness connection under the instrument panel to the left of the break pedal, as well as an electric trailer brake pigtail harness and an instruction card that are stored in the glove box when the vehicle is shipped from the factory. You will need to add an electric brake controller of your choice that will plug-in to the harness and that will also give you power on your auxiliary circuit.
