The first suggestion is that you have drained the battery when working on the lights. First remove the battery and use a good quality charger to fully charge it. **Note* Charge the battery in a well ventilated area and on a hard surface**. Leave it on charge for at least 8 hours.
Refit the battery and try to start the engine. If the problem continues it could be a faulty battery.

With a voltmeter check out the main battery fuse cartridge located in the fuse box usually 3 or 4 of them bolted to fuse box you cant mistake them they are the largest physically in the fuse box , If this reads ok check your Battery Earth strap and Engine earth strap .sometimes the dash lights if these straps are poor but they can not carry enough power to complete circuit.
Meaning that the earth strap is draining your battery into the ...."ground"? so to speak.....look around the soil where you had placed the earth strap into/on to the ground. If you discharged your battery there should be some dead earth worms around that spot. Or put the strap back on with a freshly charged battery....wet the soil a bit at the point where the earth strap is contacting the ground.... and if it is discharging the battery....in a few minutes it will cause earth worms to become excited and surface.
But I would rationally think that there is an accessory like an alarm or light or radio that you left on that drained the battery.... there has been some scuttle about car hacking...There was conversation floating around about gaining access to a cars ECM via one of the blue tooth devices being built into the system....or someway contact the car with a phony OnStar ID.....
is your car a hybrid? If so....shine what I've said ....except the worm thing....because ....I don't know......just because.......good luck and play safe.
Hi Michelle, if this is a fully charged new battery fitted then the problem is the connection from the battery, check the earth strap is making a good contact on the chassis and the terminals are connected correctly and making a good contact with the battery posts!
leave in situ and put on charge with a 4 amp charger and leave it alone for a good two days to de sulphate the plates and charge the battery ,disconnect the earth lead so you dont damage any computer with a slight AC ripple you always get with any battery charger unless its a solar panel
Right . its not all bad.
When you have zero electrics , its a major componant failure ie; battery cables , battery fuse links, earth strap ot body etc. A set of jump leads would be helpful. Check battery is charged, check voltage at battery terminal conections and NOT the battery posts as they may be corroded and dirty but look sound (+ and -) bridge Battery neg to metal of engine . This eliminates earth connection (NEG) failure. A simple circuit tester check of the major connections (under dash) and links attached to the POS + terminal at battery should solve the problem. Remember your looking for large connectors (look on bulkhead also for fuse links) and not fuses in interior fusebox. (too many circuits down to be a single fuse type problem.
Hi I am Vortash the battery light is an indicator to if the Alternator is charging or not .. if the light is on it is saying that it isn't , check the plug and wire connections to the alternator check your earth strap from your negative side of the battery to earth or if it is a continental positive earth car check the + side is attched to the earth securely and cleanly .. check the output from the alternator you should be gettinfg approx 13.5 to 14 .5 volts DC if not switch to ac if you get a reading the rectifier has gone and will need replacing ..( most of the modern alternators come with new brushes attached to a rectifier as a single module ) Check the fan belt tension slipping belt can cause bad charge rate and bring the light on .if you are finding the car is becoming difficult to start the battery going low the fault is realy dead to rights a charging fault.. Hope this helps Vortash
