Does my 2002 Focus with the split port engine (single cam) have a timing chain or belt? I was told by a dealer that it is a chain but all the manuals I've seen show a belt. I've got 215K km on it and need to change the front crank seal. I can't find camshaft timing information for this engine with a chain.

Look at the timing cover , if it's metal and held on with several bolts it has a chain , if its a plastic cover it has a belt. If a belt align the timing marks on the pulley and cover, align the camshaft gear mark on the head or block.

I have replaced valves now my car does not have spark, what is the cause?

VW POLO. not in USA< sure.
NO COUNTRY TOLD AT ALL and the books are by COUNTRY.
8 or 16valves 1.4L not TOLD. sure not the 1.4L diesel sure.
what valves , no told cars have many valve
head valves cam drive done wrong, sure.
twin cam or single cam there are 4 engines then.
buy the service manual is best, and not make huge errors
for sure timed wrong or not doing steps like RTV sealing points
or using wrong torque on bolts.

my guess is you failed to time the head cam belt ;chain.
timed wrong kills spark dead on modern cars, and spark dead kills fuel too, by design.
we have no such manual here USA.

How do I know if my 2002 Jeep Liberty has jumped time or timing chain/belt broke?

WE INSPECT IT WITH MARK1, EYEBALLS (A MIL JOKE)
SCAN IT YET, SEE CAM, ERRORS. >> USING REAL SCAN TOOL.?
NO ENGINE TOLD 2.4l IS CAM BELT
VIN DIGIT #8 IS ENGINE CODE, NOT TOLD AND IS A PURE ENGINE QUESTION.
OR THE 3.7l LIKE MINE V6, ?
IF A CHAIN GOES BAD IT MAKES HUGE RACKET.
THAT MEANS NEVER RUN it LIKE THAT. EVER.
Both engines are interference, so driving them with bad cam drive
has huge risk of engine damage $3000 + bills, parts./labor

not told at all why? is engine acting odd. or makes nasty sounds.
or CEL lamp; on ? or other cluster errors glowing.
or what? what's up doc?

top evidences is lost power or engine destruction.
huge racket (noise max)
for the belt drive snapped, it makes noise only on destructiong
head valves hit piston, wrecked
why not get it serviced and ask the person live for advice.
ask the tech in a shop.
say check it out.

I have a 2003 focus se, with a 2.0 split port engine, it has 101200 miles, bought it like 3 months before, it just started to make a clicking noise, I been told it was the timing chain, but I found out,...

The 2.o engines are bad about dropping valve seats but your problem could be a shreading t-belt either way, needs attention. If it starts skipping or running rough shut it down immediately.A valve seat out of place can do a lot of damage.

Is there a ford focus timing marks single overhead cam diagram

depending on trans and engine mount type the mark my be on flywheel but generally most cars it is located on the belt pulley attached to crank rod, center bottom one on engine block. the timeing mark should be visable from top looking down. if you use a big ratchet to turn over the engine by hand and go slowly, you should see thhe marks pass as you do so.

Does my ford focus titanium have a timing belt or

This unit will be running a timing chain. Now,The 1.6 "diesel" engine has both a belt and chain. In the diesel edition, the belt runs from the crank shaft to the cam and the other cam is ran by the chain.

Replace timing belt slapping against plastic cover

No way I can guide you through a belt replacement without re-writing a manual. If you've ever done a chain before, its the same stuff, just a belt instead of chain. Make sure tension is correct and that timing (index) marks on cam & crank pulleys are aligned properly. If you find any oil leaks in there, fix them before replacing belt. Get a manual... The job itself isn't that difficult, but is time consuming.

When do i need to change my ford focus 18 tdci cam belt

It should be in your owners manual service intervals information,or i go by the 60k miles rule. Some cars now utilize a timing chain and gears like the Mazda 3,so it would be a good idea to call your local Ford dealer, and talk to the service department,as they can tell you the specifics as to whether your engine carries a belt or chain, and the service interval for timing belts.Timing chains generally don't wear out until around the 100k mark, but belts should be serviced at 60k miles as a general rule.
