I have 2001 Toyota Avalon with approximately 131,000 miles. Yesterday I had my timing belt, water pump and power steering belt changed. When I picked up the car everythings seemed okay. I stopped at the gas station to put gas in my car. Afterwards, about 1/2 mile down the road my check engine light came on along with the VSC and VSC Off light. What is the problem? I checked my gas cap and it was on securely.

Extra work when replacing timing belt? What is recommended?

If you went from 1997 until now, someone up there
is looking over your car,if you never broke that belt

Do the water pump & belt, too much work to go back
in there for a water pump a year or two from now.

Spark plugs-- I do every 3 years
Brake Fluid Every 2 years
Trans & Power Steering Fluid every 3 years, or you
will have major & expensive repairs

Just want to know if I have to change the timing belt on my 1997 Avalon XLS with 63,350 original miles (always used Premium gasoline and Mobil 1 oil) and if the belts is changed, does the water pump need...

DUE TO THE AGE OF CAR, TIMING BELT WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO REPLACE WATER PUMP, BUT IT WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA..GAS AND OIL HAVE NO EFFECT ON TIMING BELT OR WATER PUMP.....

When do you change the timing belt? Mine has 104,000 miles

It depends on which type of motor you have; if it is an interference motor, it should be changed every 60,000 to 70,000 miles. You can write down your vin # and call the dealer to find out. You may also consider changing the water pump if it's driven by the timing belt, as the belt has to be removed for the changeover.

I have a1997 Avalon with 106,000 miles. At what point should the timing belt, etc. and water pump be changed? What should this cost?

if it aint been done yet TODAY.....I STRONGLY REC belt changes at 60/70k,if it goes, your lookin at a mortgage to get it fixed.

What is mileage to replace a timing belt on a 2004 Avalon

Typically any timing belt replacement interval is 60k-75k miles. The book will however tell you 90k. Now it depends on what engine your Avalon came with. The 3.0 is a non interference engine meaning if it does snap, it will not cause any damage to your engine. The 3.5L engine however i dont know if its a interference engine or not but i dont see anywhere where it says it is. As always suggested, change your water pump as well, as it runs off the timing belt. Once i didnt change the water pump and a week later it locked up on me and ruined my perfect new timing belt. Truth be told :) lol
