1997 Nissan/Datsun Altima 2.4L SFI DOHC 4cyl: the Throttle Position (TP) sensor is a potentiometer. It is mounted on the side of the throttle body and is connected to the throttle plate shaft. The sensor monitors throttle plate movement and position, and transmits an appropriate electrical signal to the ECM. These signals are used by the ECM to adjust the air/fuel mixture and spark timing according to engine load. The TP sensor is adjustable on some models.
Automatic transaxle/transmission TP sensors contain position switches. These switches provide a signal to the ECM when the engine is at idle and wide open throttle.

Hope helps (remmeber to rate and comment this).

I have a 1994 nissian altima it has a low idle and shakes but it runs good how could i go about finding out the problem?

It sounds like you have a faulty TPS (throttle position sensor) it is an easy fix, and it is located on the throttle body. Just follow the air intake hose back from the air intake box, when it reaches the throttle body, you will see the TPS sensor. It is held on by 2 screws and will have a plug in.

Have a 97 grand voyager 3.3 liter keeps stalling when you let off gas , have replaced fuel filter and plugs and wires still no change rpm,s are up and down then stalls , thought maybe was tps where is it...

It sounds like you have changed everything except the most likely cause of your engine idle problem....The Idle Air Control (IAC) It is located in the throttle body and looks like the picture below.

dttech_4.jpgAlso, to answer your question, TPS stands for Throttle Position Sensor. It is located in the same place on all cars...On the throttle body. No, it is not likely to cause the symptoms you are describing.

Where is 97 Nissan Altima starter

The starter is located between the engine and the firewall. Behind the engine. The easy way to get to it is by going underneath the car. Make sure you do this safely using jack stands and wheel blocks. The starter is bolted to the transmission housing.

97 Altima dashboard brake light stays on

Check your brake fluid level in the engine compartment. Its located on the rear RH side of the engine compartment, its a white/clear resevoir connecting to a large black circular object. If the fluid is low, fill to proper level, also I would recommend having your brake system checked as there may be a leak. If the fluid is fine and at the proper level, you may have a damaged/broken brake fluid level sensor or damaged/broken Emergency brake switch. Hopefully this helps....please rate thanks!!
