How do I go about replacing the fuel door/trunk cable on my '04 Civic. Fuel door fix won't work, the interior release won't open the trunk or the fuel door. The Honda dealer around here said I could get the part for about $50 with tax, I just don't know how to install it and don't have the cash for three hours of labor. Thanks

SOURCE: Fuel tank door release, 2004 Honda Civic

The release cable is sticking or broken. To release the fuel door, open the trunk and pull off the fabric liner on the left side of the trunk. Behind this liner is the fuel door release cable; this cable leads to the fuel door and attaches with a twist-lock connector. It is cylindrical with two tabs. Twist the connector clockwise about 90 degrees and it should pull out, releasing the door.

Just remember, the fuel door will not stay closed until you put the connector back in.

SOURCE: 2004 honda civic fuel door release not working. How to fix?

You can either replace the cables for $ 68.00 plus labor (fuel door release cable and trunk release cable are one in the same), or you can purchase a plastic cable assembly from www.fueldoorfix.com for $19.95 CAN (free shipping). Replaced one last week on a 2001 Honda Civic, and it worked like a charm. They have a short video clip showing how simple the fix really is, and it was rather simple.

SOURCE: My 04 Honda Civic fuel door will not open. Can

You can get to the latch through the trunk. In the trunk, pull the liner away from the area adjacent to the fuel door. You'll see a black cable that goes to the fuel door latch behind a metal frame. Reach in and turn the latch mount 90 degrees to release it from the fuel door frame. Your fuel door will now be open. You will need to repair or replace the cable, but at least you'll be able to fuel up for now.

The fuel door in my car would not open had to pop it open how do i fix it so the button will work again

usually they are opened via cable. you'll have to trace the cable and replace it, if it's broke. Sometimes you just need to lubricate the lever where you activate the door.

Gas cover will not open.can't find pull cord in trunk. How do i open?

with your trunk open remove the clips securing the carpet on the side wall of your trunk. (the side that the gas filler is on.) pull back the carpet and you will see the cable and lock for the fuel door. if you twist the inner lock that the cable is connected to you will be able to pull it out and release the fuel door.- hope this helps

I can't get the door open to my gas tank. 2005 Honda Civic Hybri

In virtually all cars there is an emergency release mechanism located inside of the trunk. It's either a pull cord, or a means of twisting the release cable to remove the plunger from inside the fuel tank door. Look inside your trunk, pull back the liner if necessary, or feel around where the cable leads to the fuel tank door.

Once you diagnose the problem you will then know whether or not you will need to replace the release cable.
