Weird problem just started. Noticed the other day when I turned off the car, the fan continued to run for about another minute. Then, this morning, I was sitting in the car with it running and temperature gauge went up over the 210 middle mark. On the way home tonight, while sitting at a light, the temperature gauge went up near the 260 mark, the check gauge light went on and once I took off from the light, it went down a bit, but, not back to normal and additionally, the oil gauge went below the middle mark. Never done this before ~ is this a thermostate problem or do I have worse issues?

The first thing to try is turning the heater upto full heat(a/c off)if the temp guage goes down THEN CHANGE THE THERMOSTAT...(hot oil,if too hot, is thinner than the normal sae rating so the oil pressure will be lower.otherwise no real problem.

Im almost sure that your problem is a broken or leaking heater core and needs to be replaced cose 1 your coolant level allways will be low due to the leak and 2 it could damage your blower fan motor. if in winter time you need the heat fixit... If not you could cancel the 2 waters hoses going to the heater core. hope this helps.

Overheating

Could be a number of things,
Do you have heat from the heaters?
Do you have any coolant loss?
If so i'd get a Cylinder leakage test done (compression test) as it could be a head gasket problem.

sometimes the fan can run for up to 5 minutes after engine shut off depending on coolant temp as long as the vehicle is not overheating and the fan turns off after a few minutes this is normal operation

Sounds like your fan relay is stuck. Look in the engine area for your fuse box, there will be a list for the relays inside. Try pulling the one for the fan. Fans are powered all the time not just ignition on
