Online, they run about $30 for the switch head, but this means dis-mantling the unit yourself and replacing only the contacts section.

To simply replace the unit as a whole, add about $100 to that price.
*You can see that spending 20 minutes pulling the old switch apart can be profitable, but this only applies if the problem is function...If you've broken a key off in the head, then the whole unit needs to be replaced.

Ignition switch on my 1987 Saab 900i

You may need to remove the ignition housing assembly to find out whats wrong inside. There are a series of small gears which connect the ignition barrel to the ignition switch & also operate the reverse gear lock mechanism. You'll need a special 3 pronged tool to remove the assembly - available from SAAB dealers.
