to get the knowledge about your car you can get the help from the company repair and service manual which will guide you each and every thing you want to know and you can get the manual from the given link http://toolsnyou.com/
take it to a mechanic, i think the gears on drive are out of place, or the teeth on the gear are worn down so much the gears on the rest of your transmission cannot grab them
amber or a yellowish orange color is normal for a check engine light take it to a autozone or a checker oriely's auto parts store and they can run a diagnostic scan on it to tell you what error code is popping up it it is a really major problem the light will be flashing if it is get it checked out!!!
catalytic converter, misfire, oxygen sensor, throttle body, fuel injector, throttle position, iac, egr, gas cap.evap system and a hundred other things can set off the check engine light.running a scan will tell which system triggered it.
check the fuses- some car makes uses individual fuses per side. Just saw that in a mitsubishi- I believe Nissan does that too. Those fuses are probably under your hood.
Probably sensors! I have already replaced the crankshaft positioning sensor once, nissan replaced it once under recall and now it is bad again! Plus my speed sensor is bad too! Go to any part store and get diagnostic test ran, it will tell what sensors are bad.
